Band Solo and Ensemble Competition
NDES had four students compete in solo and ensemble competition on April 13. Solo and ensemble is a music competition open to seventh- and eighth-grade students that is run by the state music association (OMEA). It is an optional event where students can perform a solo and receive a rating from a professional musician adjudicator.
Each soloist had to prepare his or her work outside of class time. NDES was also blessed that Sister Susan Clark, SND was available to provide accompaniment to all of its soloists.
They all received a superior rating – the top score – on their instrumental solos. Congratulations to Andrea Ivanko, Dylan White, Erika Beinhardt and Owen Tomsic.
In addition to their band instrument solos, Dylan White and Andrea Ivanko chose to further challenge themselves by competing with a piano solo. Both earned an excellent rating.
Food Truck Expo
Fifth-grade Challenge students invited all students and staff to a Food Truck Expo on April 10. Each student learned about entrepreneurship and chose a food from a different country. The students researched the food, came up with a business plan and opened their own food truck business.
Young Author Books
Mrs Biro’s first-grade class enjoyed a visit to the Sisters of Notre Dame Health Care Center. The students read their Young Author books. The Sisters signed the books and gave each child a blessing, they sang “Hail Mary Gentle Woman” and they prayed together. It was a beautiful afternoon.
