Band Students Perform

NDES band students and Mrs. Taylor Stampfer put on a fantastic spring band concert on May 16. On May 18, they participated in the Music in the Parks Cedar Point band competition. Both bands received a score of “Excellent” from the judges and Notre Dame was awarded the “Espirit de Corps Award” for sharing the best spirit and representing NDES in such a positive way.

Students Explore the Rookery

Last week, fifth-graders explored Geauga Park District’s Rookery. They investigated wetland, forest and pond habitats using their binoculars as a continuation of their study of interconnections within ecosystems.

Reality Day

The students had information about their annual gross salary but had to calculate their gross monthly income and then calculate deductions from their monthly income to ultimately come up with their net income. Students learned about the different aspects to financial planning such as savings accounts, credit cards, writing checks, student loans and more.

The unit culminated with a “Reality Day” simulation where students had to visit various stations to provide for their families based on their monthly net income. They had to determine needs and wants in order to budget for food, housing, transportation, insurance, utilities and more. Students practiced balancing their checking accounts during the simulation and had opportunities to seek out financial advice to remain within their budget.
