Giving Day Exceeds Goal
Thanks to an unprecedented and generous show of support from 465 individual donors, Notre Dame Schools raised $255,995 during Thursday’s second annual Giving Day, exceeding its $250,000 goal and topping last year’s total by nearly $100,000.
Giving Day is a focused effort to create enthusiasm and momentum among alumni, families, and friends to support our schools and our students by increasing the annual fund, which supports all programming and improvements not covered by tuition.
Last year’s first-ever Giving Day raised $159,000.
“To the 465 individuals and families who stepped forward on Giving Day, for your generosity and for your leadership to bless our students by your care and support, we thank you. To the generous leaders in our community who made our $100,000 Challenge Grant possible, we thank you,” said Notre Dame Schools President Michael Bates.
“This leadership partnered with the love and enthusiasm of our families, friends, and alumni helped shatter last year’s record. We are so blessed to have generous individuals supporting Catholic education on our campus.”
Students Accept Challenge
Students in the junior high Instant Challenge and Alpha Jump electives have been enhancing their teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking and creativity skills by working in teams to complete tasks. Some of their recent challenges included building bridges and creating a “grabbing” device for a person with a non-functioning hand. Although most of the devices were unsuccessful, the students gained empathy for a person with this real-life situation and made strides in coming up with ideas on how to make someone’s life easier by creating a device for them.
Veterans Honored
Mrs. Gardner’s first-grade class had a visit with Mr. Kyle Petersen on Nov. 14 to learn more about the service he provided for the country. Mr. Petersen enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves in 2008 and was stationed in Marjah, Afghanistan in 2009 and 2010.
Children had the opportunity to look at pictures, try on gear and see how Mr. Petersen traveled around the globe to protect the United States.
