After long anticipation, students in Ms. Thompson’s military history course got to meet officer Jarett Heatwall, a former member of the Ohio National Guard and current police officer. Heatwall spoke to the students about the benefits of joining the military, what basic training consists of and life as an officer. He discussed the fear police officers encounter on the job, as well as the benefits of helping their communities, specifically, by taking on extra shifts as a resource officer at various schools.
Students actively engaged in discussion with Heatwall by bringing in content knowledge and asking exceptional questions. He left the students with a piece of advice, “to find what they love and make a career of it.”
Volleyball Team Excels
NDES is proud of its fifth-grade volleyball team. Not only did the little Lady Lions have an undefeated season, they never lost a set. They won every game in two sets. Everyone is proud of how hard they worked and what good athletes they are.
