Principal Jay Bishop of West Geauga High School announced on Oct. 8 that Michael Elias, Luke Musser and Benjamin Anderson have been named National Merit Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.
A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC), which conducts the program, was presented by the principal to these scholastically talented seniors.
About 34,000 commended students throughout the nation are being recognized for their exceptional academic promise. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Longtime West G Nurse Retires
Brenda Swanson has been a school nurse at West Geauga Local Schools for over 21 years, and she has decided to retire this fall. Mrs. Swanson cared for hundreds of students over the years and made a profound impact. Brenda intends to spend her retirement traveling and spending time with her children and grandchildren. She will be missed by the students, staff and community.
