100th Birthday Salutations
Students at Westwood and Lindsey elementary schools sent birthday cards and well wishes to Tony Roman to celebrate his 100th birthday on Nov.14. His son, Joe Roman, whose children are graduates of West Geauga Local Schools, contacted the school district with a request to send his father cards for his monumental birthday. Teachers and students were happy to honor his request sending dozens of cards to Mr. Roman. Happy 100th birthday, Mr. Roman.
Honoring Veterans
Students at Lindsey Elementary School held a ceremony to honor local veterans. Over 60 veterans were in attendance as members of the student council addressed the entire student body and guests. The ceremony was complemented by several songs by the choir. The school is thankful for all the veterans in the community.
Chinese Speech Competition
Members of the Chinese class at West Geauga High School won third place at the Chinese Speech Competition at the Confucius Institute at the University of Akron.
Middle school student Quinn Misterka won third place in the middle school student Chinese essay competition and Bridget Bellett, Maddox Schaffer, Thomas Romeo, Andrew Elias and Madelyn Scott earned honorable mention in the middle school student Chinese essay competition.
The Confucius Institute Chinese Language and Culture Outreach program was attended by 260 students from six schools in the greater Cleveland and Akron areas. The students performed well as they have only been studying Chinese for two and one-half months at West Geauga Local Schools.
