Pacifico Wins Again
Sixth-grade student Parker Pacifico represented West Geauga Local Schools in the Geauga County Spelling Bee on Feb. 6 at the Auburn Career Center. Parker was triumphant over the other top spellers in the county and advances to the Tri-County Spelling Bee on March 20 at Kirtland Public Library. He will compete with county spelling bee champions from Lake, Ashtabula and Geauga counties.
Seniors to Continue Football Career
West Geauga High School football players Zach Slapnicker and Levi VeVerka have both decided to play football in college. Zach has signed with Notre Dame College in South Euclid and Levi has signed with Walsh University in North Canton. Both players were honored as they signed their letters of intent before family, teammates, classmates and head football coach Adam Sopkovich.
WGMB is Going to London
The West Geauga Marching Band has been invited to perform in the 2022 London New Year’s Day Parade. At an all-school assembly on Feb. 12, Jonathan Whaley, director of international participation, Robert Bone, co-founder of the parade, and Steve Summers, former Westminster City Councillor and Lord Mayor, presented the invitation to band directors Jason Branch and Taylor DeSapri. An enthusiastic band performed for the students and guests. The band officers presented gifts to the delegation from London.
