Senior Citizens Recognition Dinner

The annual Senior Citizens Recognition Dinner returned to West Geauga for the 30th year. The special event is held to honor and appreciate the senior citizens of the West Geauga community for their continued support of the district. West Geauga welcomed over 100 attendees for food, friendship and entertainment.

The dinner was sponsored by West Geauga Local Schools and The Rotary Club of Chesterland. A special thank you to guest speakers Chesterland Police Chief Craig Young and Russell Police Chief Tom Swaidner, along with many others behind the scenes and in attendance who helped to make the event a success.

Students Pie Their Teacher

The West Geauga High School Marching Band is planning to attend a parade event at Walt Disney World during the 2023-24 school year. Fundraising opportunities have already begun to help fund the overall cost. The Band Boosters had a coffee sale fundraiser with an incentive that gave students who sold 20 or more items and opportunity to smash a pie in the face of their band director, Jason Branch. Many students rose to the challenge and Mr. Branch was a great sport being covered in pie. Students are off to a great start with their fundraising.

Annual Federal Funding Update

The West Geauga School District will hold a meeting via Zoom at 4:30 p.m. May 24 to provide annual updates on the use of federal funding and garner stakeholder input.

One School One Book

Students in all grade levels at Westwood Elementary School joined together for the annual One School One Book reading. The book selected was “Friendship, According to Humphrey” by Betty G. Birney, which is part of a 12 book series. The main character of the book is Humphrey, who is a classroom pet hamster. In the adventure, Humphrey learns that friendship can be tricky and uses his problem-solving skills to make a new friend. Along with daily classroom readings, students enjoyed a themed spirit week relating to friendship. Thank you to the Westwood PTO for providing each student a copy of the book.

West Geauga Participates in Food Drive

West Geauga participated in the “Now That’s What I’m Talking About” one-day food drive. The donations support the Summer Lunch Program for Geauga County families in need. Lindsey Elementary School expanded their food drive to be a weeklong collection as part of the Lindsey’s Acts of Kindness project. Thank you to all of the students and families for their generosity to make the food drive a district-wide success.
