The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 7-13, 2022.
DISORDERLY
Jan. 12
9:38 p.m., West High Street, Middlefield. Customer being rude and disrespectful in the drive-thru. They are now doing burn outs in the parking lot. No vehicle description. Three young males in a silver Jeep. No threats made; harassing comments to workers.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Jan. 8
9:12 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Female stated male is being a jerk and she wanted to strangle him. Everyone in the house has been drinking, no weapons. Female is now laughing and trying to get away from him. She stated she is lost. Female said it is hard to talk because the male is there. Female admitted she was lying. Female said she was going to lick the deputies in the face and tell them she has COVID. She is now stating she is not allowed to talk to the cops. She is intoxicated. She stated she is going to bed so she doesn’t have to deal with the cops. She advised she is nude and might put her robe on. She stated she is weak and sick, but declined rescue. See report.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Jan. 9
12:14 a.m., Wilson Mills Road, Munson. Wife hit caller in face with a metal can. Two young kids in house. Male said alcohol is involved. Has happened before. Been married for 10 years. They were outside in the truck and she was putting her hands on him so he pushed her away from him and he slipped on the ice, then she “whacked” me in the face. Doesn’t know if he’s bleeding; cannot see out of his right eye. Declined rescue. Just wants on record. Male on front porch. Male drank about 14 beers over six hours; she drinks and he doesn’t keep track. He only drinks on the weekends. See report.
FRAUD
Jan. 7
3:44 p.m., Newcomb Road, Parkman. Caller advised her paychecks come in the mail. She never received her check in December. She learned today that someone stole her check and forged her signature. She needs to make a report. Deputy advised. Report to follow.
5:29 p.m., Madison Rod, Thompson. Met with complainant who explained she opened a fake email through PayPal stating she made a $1,500 charge. She gave an unknown male all of her information and the male advised they would make two payments back to her. She received the first payment of $26,000 and explained to the person it was the wrong amount. Person them demanded she wire them the money. She went to the bank and told them what was going on. Bank explained to her it was not real and changed all her accounts. Bank learned the $26,000 was transferred to her PayPal account from her home line of credit. Bank transferred the money back into her account. She returned home to find her laptop locked and she was unable to get in. She had already set an appointment with Geek Squad. She advised she also had a follow up appointment with the bank.
Jan. 8
7:51 p.m., Dewey Road, Thompson. Caller thought she was speaking to her cousin in Colorado. Turns out it was a scammer. She gave them her social and other information. Caller later became suspicious of the person and caught on that the person was not her cousin. She later contacted her cousin via phone and he was unaware of any type of conversation. Caller was provided a report number and advice for credit monitoring.
HARASSMENT
Jan. 13
3:40 p.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Caller reports her neighbor has been smoking pot and cigarettes in housing unit, which has been coming into caller’s unit. Caller reports she has asked neighbor to stop and he has not. Caller reports neighbor has been dumping cat litter box by their door. Caller reports a male came to their home and said if the neighbor gets evicted because of them, he will kill them. Deputy made contact with neighbor and advised him of complaints. He said they could leave caller alone.
PURSUIT
Jan. 13
12:14 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Westbound 322, attempting to stop vehicle, speeds in excess of 100 mph. Caller stated a vehicle just turned north on Aquilla from 322 in front of deputy. Vehicle turned very fast; caller stated almost wrecked. Caller is off-duty medic. Silver Nissan sedan clocked traveling over 100 mph. Deputy terminated pursuit due to loosing visual of vehicle.
SUSPICIOUS
Jan. 10
7:38 a.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Was walking on Bridge Road and fund a bunch of Amazon packages. Report taken.
THEFT
Jan. 9
7:42 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. 3-4 shoppers, maybe 20 years old, going through Dollar General with bins and are just grabbing stuff and throwing into bins. Threw stuff into the vehicle and went out the back door. Silver van headed on Aquilla Road. They grabbed soap, laundry and bar soap. Six subjects in custody, large retail theft. All items recovered. Report to follow.
Jan. 10
6:34 p.m., Water Street, Chardon. Several teens stole some items at Sheetz. Left in an older Buick Regal headed toward the square. Deputy attempting to make contact with suspect. Suspect and father in lobby to speak with an officer. Units en route back to Sheetz as suspect will pay for stolen items. Paid for items.
THREATENING
Jan. 12
5:59 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Caller advising he is receiving threatening messages on social media. He said he is in the military and has a top-secret security clearance and cannot have threats against him. He asked if dispatch wants his rank. He was told it was not necessary. Deputy advised. Showed messages and they contained no threats. Advice given how to block and report unwanted messages. Complainant would like deputy to come back to his house. That male is now threatening him online via video messages and sending them to his little sister also. Sister received a voice message saying “Tell your brother to stop contacting me or my family or I am going to slit his throat.” Male blocked from all social media Deputy attempted to make contact with male at his residence. No one answered the door.
