Sheriff’s Report

Jan. 28 – Feb. 3, 2022

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 28 through Feb. 3, 2022.

FRAUD          

Feb. 1

9:03 a.m., Hermitage Road, Chardon. Someone tried buying a vehicle from me with a fraudulent check received through the mail. Bank verified check was fraudulent. Caller advised he is not out any financial loss. Caller would like incident documented.

HARASSMENT

Jan. 28

6:45 a.m., Plank Road, Montville. Caller said he boyfriend is texting her and telling her she is incompetent for not taking care of his animals. Caller was warned about the tit-for-tat with her boyfriend over texting not to call the sheriff’s office.

10:50 a.m., Taylor May Road, Auburn. Caller getting text messages about her husband from an unknown number. Unknown person sending text messages to caller about her husband being unfaithful. Caller advised to block number and messages.

INTOXICATED PERSON

Feb. 3

9:24 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Male appears to be intoxicated, just outside peeing. He is hammered. In pajamas. He just got in his car. It looks like he is stuck. Deputy responded. Drug paraphernalia located inside car. Field summons issued and male was taken to his trailer.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

Jan. 28

9:50 p.m., Scranton Woods Trail, Newbury. Teenager using foul language and choked his mother. Mother called Copeline and said they do not feel safe. Other children in the home. Unknown weapons.

SUSPICIOUS

Feb. 3

10:01 a.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. Caller received a package from China containing an N95 mask. He would like the mask picked up, tested for chemicals and destroyed. Caller was advised the FTC has reported recent “brushing scams” of this nature from companies in China as part of their marketing programs. Caller still wants a deputy to test the mask and investigate the scam. Caller also was advised to dispose of mask and was referred to postal inspector and homeland security.

THEFT

Feb. 1

3:49 p.m., Meadowood Drive, Claridon. Caller believes he witnessed a package thief. BMW black in color occupied by four kids. Male opened two or three boxes.  Caller saw male take out a small black package from a mailbox. A vehicle was stopped for going through mailboxes and was suspected of theft. Drugs and drug paraphernalia were identified. Investigation pending. Charges to be filed.
