The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 4-10, 2022.
AGENCY ASSIST
Feb. 5
11:29 a.m., Daily Lane, South Russell. CVD asking for assistance with an assault, shots fired by shotgun, requesting BBPD and RTPD. 65-year-old male. Unknown where he is on property. Officers can hear the shotgun blast on property. Initial call to CVD for male who assaulted his roommate. They believe he is in house still. SWAT called out by CVD. Requesting units to help with perimeter. One male in custody. South Russell PD bringing male to GCSO jail.
ANIMAL BITE
Feb. 5
3:04 p.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. An Amazon driver was bitten by a dog while making a delivery. He does not need rescue, just needs to make a report. Skin is broken but nothing serious. Report taken and will be delivered to dog warden.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Feb. 5
9:24 a.m., Basswood Road, Munson. Neighbors’ plow company is pushing snow and gravel onto caller’s property. This has happened for the last three years. Victim has spoken to plow company and stated his frustration of pushing the snow. Deputy will call plow driver and ask him to stop pushing snow into neighbors’ yard.
FIRE
Feb. 5
6:30 p.m., Tavern Road, Burton. Snowmobile on fire close to a structure about 20 feet from house. Assisted.
FRAUD
Feb. 5
3:24 p.m., Butternut Road, Newbury. Someone opened a Wells Fargo account in caller’s name. Caller was notified through email of an account at Wells Fargo that he did not open. Caller initiated a credit hold with the three major credit reporting agencies and was advised to notify his bank and lenders. No loss of funds occurred.
Feb. 6
11:35 a.m., Princeton Road, Huntsburg. Letter from Washington D.C. BMV stating caller had an unpaid parking ticket. Caller was advised of a potential scam and provided advice to validate the citation.
Feb. 8
12:07 p.m., Music Street, Newbury. Fake checks were created with business bank account information. Deputy spoke with complainant who stated two fraudulent checks were created and filled out for $6,487.74 dating back to 12/20/21 and 12/21/21, and was not discovered until the first week of January. Complainant requested the info be documented and Middlefield Bank requested an IR number. Complainant advised account is still open and there has not been any other activity.
SUSPICIOUS
Feb. 4
4:30 p.m., West Center Street, Burton. IR requested. Located suspected meth and heroin on subject. Items will be sent to lab and charges to follow.
Feb. 6
10:44 p.m., Stone Road, Newbury. Male trying to enter house and caller does not know who it is. Seems to be intoxicated. No car. Pants are falling down. 5 foot 6 inches, dark hair and a beard. Caller advised the family just moved in two weeks ago. See report. Spit in deputy’s face. Spit on and kicked deputy at hospital, and spit at sergeant in jail.
Feb. 8
1:59 p.m., Rutland Avenue, Parkman. Suspicious female in a blue van. Driving slowly and trying to ask the kids for a ride. Kids ran away. This happened yesterday. Please check area and call complainant. UTL/GOA.
Feb. 9
10:46 a.m., Nauvoo Road, Middlefield. Amish taxi driver witnessed a red minivan watching Amish children after school yesterday at 3 p.m. and wanted to report the information.
THREATENING
Feb. 7
11:51 a.m., North Street, Chardon. Female student made threat to beat up another girl. Principal advised female subject is not in middle school today and would like a deputy to go and speak with her.
TRAFFIC STOP
Feb. 4
7:45 p.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. Driver stopped for traveling 20 mph in a 55 mph zone. Driver’s welfare was checked. Driver checked OK and advised she was nervous due to weather conditions.
