Sheriff’s Report
April 27, 2017

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office April 14-20, 2017. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 378 calls during this seven-day period.

AGENCY ASSIST

April 20

12:23 p.m., West Geauga Middle School, Chester. Assist with a search. K9 request to search lockers at the Middle School. K9 alerted to four lockers next to each other. Also, K9 alerted to a book bag. Chester PD and school officials notified for follow up.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

April 17

1:08 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Huntsburg. Subjects that live on the corner let their farm animals roam free. They go onto other properties and are damaging yards and landscaping. Deputy responded. Appears all animals are on property and contained. Spoke with the homeowner who stated that no one has advised her that her animals have left property before. Will keep better eye on them.

BURGLARY

April 18

1:46 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Shop was broke into. Got in through a window. Blood on the wall and door. Caller works at Kinetico. Shop is for sale. He believes this may have happened on Friday.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

April 15

3:38 p.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Caller needs to make a report for property damage. Caller states a grey pickup truck drove through her lawn and ripped up her yard and took out a drain cap. The vehicle was at her neighbor’s house for a while and that her neighbor should know the occupant.

SUSPICIOUS

April 15

8:37 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Caller believes someone is knocking on her windows. Her husband went outside with a revolver. The home was burglarized 3 weeks ago and a gun was stolen. Dispatch advised the caller to have her husband return inside the residence and put the gun down. The husband is on a riding lawn mower with a camo hat and a plaid shirt on. The husband is coming back into the home, he’s been told to secure the weapon. Deputy checked location. No signs of criminal activity.

April 17

5:33 p.m., Taylor May Road, Auburn. Female complainant states a house is vacant and noted smoke from the chimney this morning. Has been going on for a few weeks. No activity now. Deputy checked the property. Appears that the house is being restored. Multiple tools are inside living room. All doors have new locks. Unable to make contact with property owner.

April 18

4:35 p.m., Edgewater Drive, Newbury. Vacant house across the street from caller. He is advising it is bank owned and someone has broken the lock box and doorknob off. Caller does not know which bank owns the houses. He believes someone was over there today. A silver truck with ladders was seen there earlier, caller is concerned they were up to no good. Deputy responded and found a broken doorknob on the north side of the main door, but no sign of force entry. The house was secure.

April 19

10:38 p.m., Calico Lane, Chardon. Caller went outside to walk his dog and found a car parked on the street. As he got closer to the vehicle the occupants slammed the trunk and the doors and took off. Older compact car pulled into a few driveways and then left. Kirtland PD unable to locate. Caller states that there is a pile of clothes in the ditch where the vehicle was last night. Yellow Aeropostale hooded sweatshirt in ditch. Nothing suspicious found.
