Sheriff’s Report
July 20, 2017

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office July 7-13, 2017. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 404 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

July 9

9:03 a.m., Music Street, Newbury. She found a Clydesdale in her pasture. It does not belong to her. Owner of horse was located and horse was returned.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

July 7

8:46 p.m., Ledge Road, Thompson. Two transgenders have been asked to leave the campground are causing issues with another group of campers located in the primitive area. No drugs or alcohol. Campground called back and stated the situation has been de-escalated. Deputy spoke with owner of campground who stated two transgender males were taking off their shirts, exposing themselves. Stated he told them to leave and they finally did leave. Everything is fine.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

July 10

6:38 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Female on post. Her 12-year-old son assaulted her last night. Report taken.

DROWNING

July 9

5:17 p.m., Ledge Rod, Thompson. 3-year-old female drowning. There is a paramedic at the located. Caller advised she is now crying. Caller had taken her daughters to campground and 3-year-old had fallen into pool. Paramedic on scene was able to give assistance and make sure girl was able to breathe freely without water in her lungs. Girls transported to UH Geauga.

EXPLOSIVES

July 13

9:01 p.m., Penniman Drive, Hambden. Across from this address a home blew up. Family is out of the house with injuries, but they do not believe they are severe. The entire side of the house is hanging off. FD paged as working structure fire.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

July 13

4:14 p.m., Ravenwood Drive, Claridon. Four juveniles are throwing rocks and scratching out names on the Veteran’s Memorial in front of Ravenwood.

INFO REPORT

July 9

1:34 a.m., Coachman Drive, Munson. Restricted number called and stated, ‘Hi, it’s . . . there is blood everywhere and you’re next.” Call ended. Caller doesn’t know what’s going on, but has decided she will be OK. No response needed.

LITTERING

July 10

12:07 p.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Someone illegally dumped items at the recycle center. They would like to meet and file a report. Landscaping company dumped landscape waste (plastic drain pipe, garden hose, plastic sheeting). Company representative stated he spoke with both Munson officials and company that picks up the waste, and received informal permission. As all items are plastic, there is no signage restricting them from being placed in the container.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

July 10

1:43 a.m., Hosmer Road, Parman. Juveniles are walking northbound on Hosmer, around 12 of them, smashing mailboxes. Second caller. Unknown number of Amish kids. Wife just took off after the kids. Report taken.

ROAD RAGE

July 8

3:11 p.m., Kinsman Rod, Newbury. Tree service company advised an irate driver is following their truck back to the business on Kinsman Road. Vehicle is a black sedan. They are requesting a deputy at the business when the truck and irate driver arrive. Party claims the driver of the truck cut him off and gave him the finger afterward. He then followed the truck to shop so he could make a complaint to the owner. His info was left with the business for the owner to contact him about the incident.

SUSPICIOUS

July 8

7:49 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Subject is trespassing on the property and is shining a laser at the camera so homeowner cannot see what is being recorded. Evidence gathered.

July 9

4:39 a.m., Tavern Road, Burton. Vehicle is pulled off next to roadway, occupied. Male checks OK. Stated he has been living in his car since he broke up with his “old lady.” Advised male he cannot sleep here. Male left area.

10:16 p.m., Campton Ridge Drive, Chardon. Caller is reporting he paid for a stripper and she’s not performing. One male stating he has a knife. Female reporting she was visiting at the house and four males will not allow her friend to leave. Possible weapons, violence, with a fist fight. Deputy responded. Males at the house are upset because they believed the female was a prostitute and they wanted their money back because she refused those type of services. Her bouncer is not injured. Males at location are still screaming and yelling. Two males arrested.

July 11

12:18 p.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. On Munn Road, south of Stafford, there is a male standing by the side of the roadway doing karate moves. He is wearing dark clothes. Deputy advised. Checked area; no one walking.

July 12

1:49 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Male came into the store and said give him money. He said he needed money for the bank. He wouldn’t leave until we gave him $5. He said he would drive to Chardon, where his bank was, and withdraw some money to repay the money. Caller asking for someone to be in the area. Employee was advised not to give anyone money in the future and to contact the sheriff’s office if something like this happens again.

THEFT

July 7

5:20 a.m., Rapids Road, Troy. Two ATVs stolen out of the caller’s barn sometime last night. No idea who may have taken them. One is a 2015 Honda Rimcon, forest green. The other is a Polaris 110 that’s multi-colored with grey and fluorescent colors. There are tracks coming out of the barn, across the gravel.

July 8

10:26 a.m., Moseley Road, Thompson. Two chainsaws were taken from the barn. Report taken.

July 9

7:58 a.m., Burton Windsor Road, Burton. Chainsaw, weed-eater, leaf blower, polisher for car. Possibly Thursday or Friday night. Report taken.

4:29 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. A vehicle and several tractors were stolen off the property. The 1957 Chevy, a tractor from in the barn and one from the back have been stolen. Caller would like to speak to a deputy. Possible family dispute over property. Will follow up with complainant at a later date and time.

9:04 p.m., Dawson Drive, Auburn. Ongoing thefts from the property. Today, a large carved bear was stolen from the yard. Caller believes it occurred 3-7 p.m. today. It is 4 feet tall. Report taken.

July 11

2:07 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. My mom and I had cash and Western Union money orders stolen. We just fired someone the other day. Money orders were blank and for $1,000 each. Checks total between $10,000 and $12,000. Business has offices in Chesterland and Hambden. Deputy advised. Initial report taken.

TRAFFIC OFFENSE

July 7

1:11 .m., Madison Road, Parkman. Horse and buggy. The male driver is passed out and the horse is walking in the wrong lane. Caller is following the buggy. Buggy turned onto Nash and then south on Newcomb.

WEAPONS OFFENSE

July 9

4:39 p.m., Stanfield Drive, Munson. Caller’s neighbor is shooting and one of the bullets went through his window. Deputy advised. Complainant wanted a report on file for the damages. Complainant and male shooting are going to make arrangements to fix the window.

WELFARE CHECK

July 7

2:49 p.m., Aquilla Road, Hambden. A gentleman came up to him and stated approximately one mile out of Chardon on the south side of the roadway. There is a house with about 8-10 turkey vultures sitting on the roof. Caller said the yard looks a bit overgrown. Caller thinks someone should check it out as the vultures may smell a body inside the house. House secure. Appears to be under construction inside.
