Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 11-17. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 345 calls during this seven-day period.
CAR FIRE
Aug. 12
4:06 a.m., Swine Creek, Middlefield. Car is on fire, looks like it’s ready to blow up. In the middle of the road, not near a structure, nobody around. Flames are about 15 feet high. OSHP advised. It will be awhile before they can get a car to the scene. OSHP advised of rollover crash, truck upside down. Fire department searching for victims. Area searched by multiple crews and thermal unable to locate anyone.
EXTRA PATROL
Aug. 17
6:31 p.m., Woodin Road, Hambden. Caller is requesting extra patrol for oversized load trucks on Woodin road. Phone and cable lines continue to be ripped down as these large trucks travel through the area and the caller believes they are too large to be using Woodin. GCSO will perform extra patrols.
ILLEGAL BURNING
Aug. 15
8:08 p.m., Hotchkiss Road, Burton. Caller reports her neighbors are burning railroad ties and it’s against EPA regulations. Deputy responded. Fire personnel stated the fire burning was not illegal. Fire personnel requested deputy stand by while they spoke with the complainant to ensure the conversation remained civil.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Aug. 14
6:20 p.m., Betty Lou Drive, Middlefield. Caller states someone is slashing tires and her lawn mower tire was slashed. She would like to speak with a deputy. Deputy advised. Complainant reported someone slashed the rear tire of her riding mower sometime between 4:00 and 6:00 p.m. No known suspects and the complainant requested the incident be documented in case additional incidents occur.
SUSPICIOUS
Aug. 11
10:17 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Caller found a butcher knife with blood on it. An Amish female threw it in a garage can. Caller is concerned the knife was used to harm someone. Deputy advised. The knife appears to be garbage and has rust on it, not blood. Rust spots and pits on it as well.
Aug. 12
2:23 p.m., Moseley Road, Thompson. Two weeks ago there was a male in the area in a van saying he was from Dish Network. Today he is back. He’s in an unmarked gray van. He’s driving around the area trying to get people to talk with him about changing their plans, seeing their paperwork and asking about static with their systems. Deputy checked the area and was unable to locate the vehicle or the male.
TRAFFIC OFFENSE
Aug. 16
6:44 a.m., Erwin Drive, Burton. Caller states there are people flying up and down the road at all hours of the day. He would like a deputy to come down and monitor speed throughout the day. Neighbor that drives a grey truck has tried to run the caller off the road before, multiple times. It’s mostly the neighbor right next door and the neighbor across the street. Caller is adamant that he wants to see a deputy presence on his street. Caller was also advised to call in the future if the neighbor tries to run him off the road, at the time of the incident. Deputy will do extra patrol during shift.
THREATENING
Aug. 14
8:06 a.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Hambden. Caller has gotten three calls since Thursday. Beginning is “garbled and they mention human services. They give him a code and a number to call. Something about his property and that he needed to go to court. Caller wasn’t entirely sure what it was about. Caller indicated that it sounded threatening and would like an officer to take a report. Phone scam.
