Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 23-29. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 305 calls during this seven-day period.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Dec.23
3:21 p.m., Erwin Drive, Burton. Male has a problem with the neighbors harassing him while waling his dogs and feels that the police need to make a presence on his street. Wished to have it documented there are still ongoing issues with the neighbors driving fast up and down the road. Advice given.
Dec. 27
8:37 a.m., Munn Road, Newbury. Theft, suspicious, lost property, vandalism/property damage, threatening/menacing, harassment, trespassing, assault/fight, fraud and other all marked on lobby call sheet.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Dec. 24
2:46 p.m., Hobart Road, Parkman. Caller reports a larger white male assaulted at the intersection. He was in white van, left westbound on 422. Caller is now home and would like a report. Complainant stated he had passed the suspect vehicle legally on 528 approaching 422. While at the intersection he male exited his vehicle and grabbed complainant by his beard. Suspect then went west; complainant went east. Could not provide a plate or vehicle description other than white minivan. Heavy set male in his 60s, wearing a stocking hat. Only wished to have the incident documented.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Dec. 26
8:52 p.m., Standish Avenue, Middlefield. Husband waved a gun at my son. He tried to choke and rape me today. There are three or four more guns in the house. He does not drink; he is just crazy. This is reported as third party; she did not see this and was told by a friend. She said son is not afraid of the dad.
DRUGS
Dec. 28
8:43 p.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Male is staying at the County Home. Staff went into his room and found marijuana and dabs in his room. He is working at Middlefield Wal-Mart right now. Deputy needs to enter through the staff entrance. Report to follow.
FRAUD
Dec. 23
1:25 p.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Female is at Middlefield PD to file fraud report. She had two credit cards opened in her name. Complainant received a sales call from unknown company asking if she wanted to reduce her credit card interest rates. Complainant advised the individual she does not have any credit cards. Individuals stated their records show she had two credit cards in her name, but would not tell her account numbers. Complainant checked on Experian and no new credit cards showed up on her history. Complainant put an alert on her credit to make sure no credit cards could be issued. No crime committed and the incident documented.
SUSPICIOUS
Dec. 23
5:30 a.m., Munnberry Oval, Newbury. There is a vehicle sitting outside with headlights and taillights on, but doesn’t sound like it is running. Cannot see if it is occupied. Vehicle just left at a high rate of speed, headed eastbound into the loop. Deputy spoke with driver of vehicle. She and her boyfriend were arguing and didn’t want to wake their roommate. Parties are heading back home.
Dec. 26
9:06 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Caller found three small bags with brown substance in it. Believes it might be narcotics. Was identified as molten chocolate candy and/or beverage mix. Not narcotic substance; substance was thrown away.
THEFT
Dec. 23
5:48 p.m., Taylor May Road, Auburn. Theft of rings from a suitcase. Unknown where this may have occurred. Would like to make a report. Theft occurred, it is believed, in Texas. Theft of a 5 diamond, white gold ring and emerald/diamond silver ring. Total reported value is $2,295. Advice given; report for insurance reasons.
Dec. 27
6:22 p.m., Highland View Drive, Munson. Theft of over $1,000 worth of Amazon packages, including an iPad, from her mailbox. No suspects or witnesses.
Dec. 28
9:26 a.m., Washington Street, Auburn. We noticed one of the employees on video from last night stealing and was drinking on the job. His drawer was $40 short. Spoke with store manager who just wanted incident documented. They advised they will withhold funds from his paycheck and fire the employee.
Dec. 29
2:58 p.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Poker table taken sometime today. Tracks earlier were in the direction of the apartments before the snow melted. Spoke with caller who just wanted GCSO to know two poker tables and cases of poker chips were taken overnight from his trailer. Caller did not want to make a report at this time. Just FYI.
THREATENING
Dec. 24
12:43 p.m., Linda Drive, Newbury. Ex-husband is calling the house and threatening my friend that he is going to kick his ass. Ex-husband was upset his wife’s new boyfriend was interfering with the visitation.
Dec. 27
5:28 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Claridon. Female on post to file report regarding harassment and threatening and menacing. Complainant stated she believe a man is watching her and her husband at Maple City Taps. Complainant further stated male is texting her husband and stating he is a bad person and he is going to get an OVI. Complainant said male has not threatened direct harm to her or her family. Complainant states she does not trust the male. Deputy advised complainant to block male’s number, email address and contact municipal court for a civil protection order.
TRAFFIC CRASH
Dec. 25
11:46 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Female says a car traveling the opposite direction threw a bottle at her vehicle, shattered the windshield. She has glass in her eyes. Caller states it smells like a fruity alcoholic beverage. Caller states other vehicle continued down the roadway.
