Sheriff’s Report
December 22, 2016

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 9-15. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 369 calls during this seven-day period.

BURGLARY

Dec. 9

3:24 p.m., Hotchkiss Road, Newbury. Caller states home has been burglarized. Jewelry box and several other items are missing. House is ransacked. Caller has entered home. No one is there. Husband is on the way home. Occurred sometime today. Deputy advised.

CITIZEN’S ASSIST

Dec. 14

6:46 p.m., Fowlers Mill Road, Munson. Elderly caller says there is a bat flying around her basement. She would like assistance. Female advised she hasn’t gotten a hold of a pest removal company, that she is very frightened by the bat. Deputy advised. Son in Law arrived and caught/removed bat with a net.

PHONE HARASSMENT

Dec. 12

5:10 p.m., Old State Road, Claridon. Caller says that a few minutes ago she was contacted by a male with an accent claiming to be from Microsoft. As she spoke shortly with the male, the male began to sexually harass the female. The number that called was 1-503-432-8556. Deputy advised caller not to answer further calls from the number and to block the number. Female requested no further assistance and for incident to be documented.

SUSPICIOUS

Dec. 11

4:54 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Suspicious items sitting by the left side of the ice chest at the Circle K. Appears to be copper staples and some other items. Caller stated it seems to be very expensive items. Does have some snow on it, may have been there all day. Deputy collected a Chobani Yogurt container full of staples and a Home Depot bag of light bulbs. Complainant was advised if anyone asked for them to contact the Sheriff’s Office.

Dec. 12

4:54 p.m., Beechwood Drive, Newbury. Caller states someone came to her door asking about shoveling snow. She states he was in jeans and a green hoodie. Caller was suspicious because he wasn’t dressed properly and she didn’t recognize him. She advises she was really creeped out. Last seen heading south on Beechwood on foot. Was carrying a shovel. Deputy checked the area and was unable to locate.

Dec. 14

12:57 p.m., Rapids Road, Troy. Two males knocking at the door in hunting gear with guns. They have walked back down the driveway and she can no longer see them. She did advice they had set the guns on a tree and then came to the door. She did not see that right away. She requested for the area to be checked. Deputy responded. Subjects out hunting. Wanted permission to search back of complainant’s property for a bird they shot.

UTILITY PROBLEM

Dec. 13

8:53 a.m., Lake Shore Drive, Newbury. Neighbors house has been vacant for several months. Appears to be some type of a water main break coming from the area of the residence. Caller would like someone to have someone check the residence in case the water hits any type of electrical source. Fire Department personnel deemed it too hazardous to cross the saturated floor so they pulled the meter. Fire Department will notify building department.
