Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 3-9, 2017. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 379 calls during this seven-day period.
EXTRA PATROL
Feb. 4
5:38 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Several buildings at Fowlers Mill Inn were broken into sometime last night. The owners would like extra patrol for the property for the next week. The owners are renovating the property. They report the Fowlers Mill & Tavern sign was stolen, they had the wood stove pulled outside and it appears they changed their mind and left the property. The owners do not want a report for the stolen property.
Feb. 7
8:38 p.m., Leader Lane, Hambden. Caller says that someone tried to jump start his F150. The steering column is broken. It was driven two days ago. Caller says that his neighbor across the street also had the same thing done to her vehicle. Caller/owner of the vehicle requested an extra patrol due to what happened. The owner did not want a report as the truck barely starts and the part was not very expensive.
FRAUD
Feb. 7
3:23 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Caller says she was scammed out of $5,000 by who she believed to be a bondsman from Pennsylvania. She says that she got a phone call from them yesterday saying that her grandson was in an accident and was under arrest, so she gave $2,500. They then called this morning and said there was a fight in the jail and that because her grandson was from Ohio and not Pennsylvania, they needed another $2,500. She sent the money using Ria through Walmart. The caller spoke with her grandson over his personal cell phone and he advised that someone also called his grandparents in Mentor attempting the same scam.
HAZMAT
Feb. 8
3:37 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Deputy out with a semi truck with a full fuel tank that is leaking. Parkman and Middlefield Fire Departments have the leak controlled. They will be standing by at the scene. FedEx truck is off the roadway and not a hazard to other vehicles.
THEFT AUTO
Feb. 6
9:39 a.m., Wilder Road, Chardon. 1988 Lincoln Town Car with historic plates. The keys were not in the vehicle. Caller last saw the vehicle last night. His wallet is in the vehicle. Deputy advised. Male was intoxicated last night and left vehicle at the bar. Caller given ride to pick up vehicle.
TRAFFIC CRASH
Feb. 5
11:49 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Car hit something in the middle of the road and it flew up and hit caller’s car. Vehicle won’t start now. Other vehicle left the area. Deputy responded. Vehicle is being towed to the owner’s home. Owner requests to have a mechanic give an estimate on the vehicle before the Deputy turns in a crash report.
UNCONSIOUSNESS
Feb. 4
8:28 a.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. Male in a gold vehicle who is unresponsive in his vehicle. He is at the intersection of Ravenna and Starbush. The male is unresponsive. Vehicle is running. The male starting to come to. The caller took the males keys and put the car in park. Male appears to be in his 20’s. Deputy responded. Subject stated he fell asleep at the intersection. Male refused medical help because he did not have health insurance. Male gave consent to search vehicle and no drugs were located. Male contacted his father and grandfather to pick him and the vehicle up.
