Sheriff’s Report

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 3-9, 2017. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 377 calls during this seven-day period.

BURGLARY

March 6

8:29 p.m., Chipmunk Lane, Burton. Caller came home to find tracks in the yard, the doors were open and multiple items, including $200 and two purses, missing. Caller is leaving the house now to check his store that is on the same property.

CITIZEN ASSIST

March 4

4:56 a.m., Washington St., Auburn. Caller states an alarm on his ceiling keeps going off and on. He thinks it might be his smoke detector, but he isn’t sure and he can’t get it down to check. Caller does not see or smell any smoke. Deputy advised. Dead battery on carbon monoxide alarm.

EXTRA PATROL

March 5

7:14 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. The church doors are left open to the public. Some time after Tuesday someone was in the church and wrote some profanities on the dry erase board. Also there was a quilt box in the ladies restroom and someone rummaged through it, but nothing was taken. Asking for extra patrol until they get some extra lights and possibly cameras too.

FRAUD

March 7

5:59 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Complainant advised she had received a letter from Target stating someone had attempted to sign up for a credit card in her name. Complainant further stated the unknown person had her Social Security number. Deputy advised complainant to contact Social Security office. No charges were made to the complainant.

PROPERTY WATCH

March 5

12:04 p.m., Madison Road, Thompson. Thompson Fire Department is apparently a Pokémon Go spawn location. Requesting extra patrol around the Fire Station. Assistant chief chased two people from behind the station near the propane tanks today.

SUSPICIOUS

March 7

10:54 p.m., Winfield Park Drive, Newbury. Suspicious four-door vehicle near the cul-de-sac. They have a computer open. Deputy advised. Three males in the vehicle were hanging out in the car because the males were not allowed to be in the house due to making too much noise. Advised males to park vehicle in one of the male’s driveways.

THEFT

March 9

2:16 a.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Garage was broken into and a gun is missing. Beretta and a holster. Believes the theft occurred sometime this week and he just noticed it missing. Pry marks on the doors. Deputy responded.

UTILITY PROBLEM

March 4

10:16 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Delivery truck hit several lines across the road inside the park. They are at lot 56 now. Driver was approached and said it isn’t their problem and continued to their delivery location. Unknown if power or cable lines. Caller was told to call if this happens. They are not on the truck currently. Fire department cleared prior to arrival.
