Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 31 through April 6. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 299 calls during this seven-day period.
CITIZEN ASSIST
April 6
11:54 a.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. The caller received a check from Edwards Administrator out of Portland, Ore. It is in the amount of $2,079.85. The caller wants a deputy to tell her if it is a real check. Advice was given to complainant to not cash check because it was a scam.
EXTRA PATROL
April 5
10:54 a.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. Female wants documented that someone came on to her porch last night and removed a “Welcome” flag that was screwed into the flagpole. She claims this is from the 18-month ongoing issue. She wants this on record only and to document the event.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
March 31
8:34 p.m., Kile Road, Hambden. Juveniles calling 911 and hanging up. 10-12 year-old females. Deputy spoke with the children’s parents. They were unaware children were prank calling. Parents stated the children will be grounded and phones taken away. Deputy spoke with the children; they were crying and embarrassed. Stated they will never prank all again and understood 911 is for emergency use only.
SUSPICIOUS
March 31
10:51 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. Anonymous caller reports several vehicles are pulling in and out of the park. Caller is reporting there is no one there now and the vehicles left. Deputy located two trucks pulling out of the park. Both driver’s stated they were assisting another car get out of the field. They stated they didn’t know the owner of the car and the vehicle left. Advice was given. The north side of the drive is tore up. No evidence on the trucks that show they were stuck or mudding.
April 4
12:14 a.m., Ascot Lane, Auburn. Caller can hear people in front of her residence; however, she cannot see anyone or tell how many there may be. She heard someone saying “Hello” about 3 minutes ago. No one has come to the door or said anything else. Deputy advised. Appears to be a cat in heat. Complainant was advised. It really does sound like a person saying “Hello.”
1:44 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Refused caller wanted to report a dead raccoon in a tree. She is advising there is a pole near the tree. Cars and buses are slowing down to look at it. Deputy advised. Dead raccoon hanging in a tree. Animal removed to the ground.
