Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 29, 2017, to Jan. 4, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 318 calls during this seven-day period.
AGENCY ASSIST
Jan. 3
3:25 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. JFS would like us to assist them in removing a teenage female from this address. They believe the parents have been using drugs in the presence of the child. Child is with JFS.
ASSAULT
Dec. 30
12:24 a.m., Stone Road, Newbury. Female in her 30s or 40s attacked the caller at the Hickory. They were there for hours. She told the caller if she ever hears about her putting her hands on her cousin again she’s going to rock her world. That was an incident that happened seven years ago. They started to argue and then female threw a drink at the caller and pushed her, then started hitting the caller. Caller states she suffered a thumb injury, but the barmaid assisted her in cleaning up the blood. Caller does not wish to have a rescue squad. Caller states female only lives a couple houses away and she is concerned she may show up and start more problems. Caller states female left Hickory and went to Zeppe’s. Nobody at bar would let the caller use a phone to call for help; caller’s phone was dead. Caller states they told her to let it go, it’s just a stupid bar fight. Report taken; warrant to be issued.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Dec. 29
5:08 p.m., Heath Road, Munson. Neighbor across the street is using caller’s driveway. He continues to use it to get up the hill. She has told him repeatedly not to use it and he doesn’t listen. Deputy spoke with both parties. Neighbor advised he’s stop using the complainant’s driveway.
DISORDERLY
Dec. 31
11:46 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. My son’s friend was taken to the hospital last night and two people showed up at the house and were choking my son out and I punched him in the back of the head. This occurred about 30 minutes ago. Son left the house to go to his brother’s birthday party. Male just wanted it documented he struck an unknown make in the head. Claims this was to protect his 27-year-old son. Son may call in later with further information.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Dec. 31
8:07 a.m., Old State Road, Parkman. Daughter texted code for trouble at the home. They are going through a divorce. Dispatcher contacted mother back. Husband went and got the granddaughter, brought her to the house and went back to the daughter’s. Guns already have been surrendered. An argument between husband and wife over a Facebook message the husband received at 1:30 a.m. for an ex-male friend of the wife’s. No threats or violence between husband and wife today.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Jan. 3
10:47 a.m., Grove Street, Middlefield. Upstairs, domestic violence, male is slamming her on the floor. Caller does not know the names. Additional unit requested. Male fled prior to arrival. He is on foot in the village. Male arrested for DV and disorderly conduct, and transported to GCSO jail. Ravenwood saw male at jail, statement obtained, pictures taken, report to follow.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
Dec. 31
11:04 p.m., Taylor May Road, Auburn. Owner of cabin found out someone was throwing a party and she kicked about 100 kids out and there are still about 30 there. Not Amish. Cabin in on a farm. There was a flyer that went out on the Internet and someone was charging $2/head for the party. She thinks there are illegal drugs and alcohol, but has not seen it. She is waiting by the road for deputies. Caller is in a black pickup truck blocking the drive. Kids are walking all over the roads. Report to follow.
SUSPICIOUS
Jan. 1
1:06 a.m., Radcliffe Road, Hambden. Male believes he saw someone tied to a tree in the area of Radcliffe and 608. He no longer is in the area. Deputy advised. Female was standing by a tree. Female is upset her boyfriend did not kiss her at midnight and walked away from her boyfriend’s house. She is refusing a ride back; deputy following in cruiser due to cold weather. Checked OK.
Jan. 3
8:03 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. I think someone is in my house. Caller is in her basement bedroom and is supposed to be home alone. Sister is at school now. Sister told me the door was kicked in yesterday around 8 p.m. last night. She is hearing noises upstairs now. Parents were arrested and are in jail. Unable to lock door. She hears walking upstairs. Sister told complainant that last night the door was kicked in and someone ran into the woods. She never called the cops. Caller works night shift. Deputy checked interior/exterior. No signs of criminal activity.
Jan. 4
8:18 a.m., Jug Street, Troy. IR requested by deputy. Complainant believes someone was in her residence two weeks ago and thinks there is a camera in her clock. Call clear.
THEFT
Dec. 29
3:48 p.m., Cottage Hill Lane, Chardon. Caller needs to make a report for theft. He paid more than $400 in advance for contracted plow services and they party moved to Florida. When the contractor moved, they contacted caller and advised they would refund “when I get to it.” Advised how to file a civil claim.
Jan. 2
1:16 p.m., Music Street, Newbury. Party advised his friend borrowed a 5-foot ladder on Nov. 21, 2017, and never returned it. Today he saw it at Geauga Pawn. Deputies responded to the pawnshop along with the victim, who paid $30 to get it back. Party does not wish to press charges; only wanted his ladder back.
THREATENING
Dec. 30
9:11 p.m., Woodiebrook Road, Munson. Caller 12-year-old female states he ex-boyfriend, 16 years old, was threatening her via text messages. Caller’s parents are not home. Deputy spoke with caller’s mother over phone. She advised she had no idea her daughter called sheriff’s office. She was advised of the complaint and said she would speak with her daughter when she returned home, as this appears to be a juvenile issue. No further action requested.
Dec. 31
5:07 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Montville. We are trying to move. We thought my girlfriend/wife’s dad was going to pull a gun, but he did not. He is upset because the 19-year-old daughter married the caller yesterday. Threat was made he would slash my tires. Caller is now outside and the car is fine. Deputy advised. No violence or threats of violence. Female and male left. Deputies stood by while female collected her items. Everything checked OK.
TRAFFIC STOP
Jan. 2
10:53 a.m., North State Avenue, Middlefield. Male was showing a 15 full extradition out of Erie County, Pennsylvania. All information from LEADS matched the 15 except for height and weight. Male stated someone with the same name and D.O.B. stole his Social Security Number. Erie County sent a picture of the male wanted; picture did not match the male we had detained and he was released and advised why he was detained. Male stated he will try and work this out with Erie County.
UNCONSCIOUSNESS
Dec. 30
3:59 a.m., Stone Road, Newbury. 24-year-old male, unconscious, OD. Male was vomiting. Male is warm. Unknown if breathing; caller is not listening. There are three people at the house. CPR in progress. Lips are blue; they are doing CPR. Male was transported to UH Geauga ER, where he was pronounced dead. Report to follow.
