Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 19-25, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 391 calls during this seven-day period.
ASSAULT
Jan. 21
12:34 a.m., View Drive, Newbury. Multiple people across the street beating up an older gentleman. Male may need a squad. All new people to the area, don’t know who they are. 2-3 people broke up the fight from across the street. Male is lying by the car. Assailants went back inside the residence. Male that was assaulted is trying to get into his vehicle and possibly drive away. Female came outside with a flashlight. Sent fire department back for highly intoxicated male.
Jan. 23
4:03 p.m., Klatka Drive, Munson. Caller reports she was holding onto a vehicle and a male who was buying a watch took the item without paying and drove away causing her to fall. Caller met the male from LetGo. It’s a site to sell merchandise. Caller reports they met on Snap Chat. He stated his name and said he lived in Aurora. Suspected identified and located. Report to follow.
DISORDERLY
Jan. 19
10:41 p.m., Rapids Road, Troy. Large party with underage drinking and drugs. Very loud. Caller could see high schools kids walking around with Four Locos. Deputy advised. Large number of underage persons was identified. Any consumption by persons a ride was contacted. Juveniles’ parents were contacted. Homeowner was notified. Permission to enter home, identify all people inside and remove everyone was granted by homeowner on recorded line. Report will be completed and info to be added.
DRUGS
Jan. 20
11:51 p.m., Hickox Street, Burton. 24-year-old male just got dropped off at home. Father believes he is under the influence of some narcotic. Male went into his room; male is irritated at dad. Opiate depended male. Unknown if that’s what he used tonight. Will meet officer outside.
FALL
Jan. 20
3:20 p.m., Mayfield Road. Male fell out of a moving car west of 608 on Mayfield. Male is up and walking. Possible suicide attempt. He is bleeding from the side of his face and arm. Before call disconnected she stated they had both been smoking marijuana. Assisted on scene. OHP will have report.
FRAUD
Jan. 23
1:40 p.m., Butternut Road, Munson. Caller reported his bank informed him of fraudulent activity on his debit card at 4:30 a.m. Bank informed him of a charge to Air BnB of Thailand in the amount of $587.37. Bank was going to refund money and he has canceled card. Documentation only.
HARASSMENT
Jan. 22
11:44 a.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Caller’s house has been egged and said that now she is receiving text messages. Caller advised she has filed reports in the past, but needs some more assistance with it.
Jan. 23
3:14 p.m., Huntley Road, Huntsburg. On past for harassment report. Scam email from unknown person claiming he was hired to kill complainant unless he paid $3,200. Advice given.
INJURED PERSON
Jan. 19
2:25 p.m., Station Road, Middlefield. 23-year-old male, piece of wood hit him in belly and bounced off. Medevac is unable. They contacted LifeFlight. FYI.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
Jan. 19
7:49 p.m., Legend Creek Drive, Munson. Teenager is threating to run away. He walked out front door. He has a suitcase and is wearing a dark jacket and sweatpants. Upset his grandmother was involved in verbal altercation with his teenage sister for talking back. Deputy spoke with parties. Tonight was a misunderstanding of words between all parties. Everyone apologized and situation was mediated. Advice provided.
Jan. 24
2:36 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. High school. Student brought water bottles with alcohol. Deputy responded and met with teacher and student. Teacher advised in the beginning of the year student brought same colored liquid to school with alcohol in it. Today student had same colored liquid and wanted it checked to see if alcohol was in it again. Student advised it’s just Kool Aid and learned his lesson from past incident. Liquid checked and no odor noted of alcohol. Teacher advised he was happy with outcome. Student was released back to class. Advice given.
OVERDOSE
Jan. 21
9:06 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. 30-year-old male possible overdose on heroin. Main building on far right. Report taken. Male arrested.
SUSPICIOUS
Jan. 22
9:26 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Complainant, clerk at store, has requested a deputy respond to her residence. While closing up the store and preparing to leave for the evening, she found a pile of hypodermic needles and tourniquets in the parking lot. This is an ongoing problem. Caller did not feel sage waiting by herself in parking lot so she went home. She threw the items away, but documented with multiple pictures. Requested extra patrol overnight because someone is dumping needles in parking lot.
THEFT
Jan. 23
3:26 p.m., Aquilla Road, Burton. Caller is reporting his boat was stolen. Deputy advised. Theft of boat, follow up needed.
THREATENING
Jan. 24
11:53 a.m., Music Street, Newbury. Threats made on Facebook page yesterday. Deputy advised. Report taken.
