Sheriff’s Report
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 16-22, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 304 calls during this seven-day period.
AGENCY ASSIST
Feb. 19
12:55 p.m., State Highway 534, Windsor. Male subject is a meth addict. ACSO would like a deputy to back him on a welfare check. He is very violent and usually armed. His mother has not heard from him in three days. Meet at Windsor FD. Assisted. Male not there.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Feb. 20
12:28 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Four beagles running in the road. Deputy advised. UTL/GOA.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Feb. 19
11:08 a.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. Caller’s aunt is there refusing to leave. Caller’s mother also resides here and wants the aunt to stay. Caller is mad because the aunt corrected the caller’s children. Verbal dispute. Aunt will leave.
DISORDERLY
Feb. 18
7:48 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Several parents are arguing with each other at The Pond and being disruptive. An entire bleacher of adults has been asked to leave and they are refusing, 15-20 adults on each bleacher, approximately 40 adults, with 13 minutes left on the clock. Employees at The Pond requested deputies respond and stand by because some of the parents in attendance were starting to get upset and disorderly because of the hockey game their kids were playing. Deputies stood by and waited until the crowd cleared after the game was over. Deputies cleared without incident.
HARASSMENT
Feb. 16
4:30 p.m., Auburn Road, Munson. Snap Chat harassment. Spoke with complainant who stated she goes to Newbury High School and she feel a male who also goes to her school sent a harassing Snap Chat to other kids in the school about her. Deputy observed this Snap Chat message. It was not a direct threat of violence and was only a comment about the complainant. Deputy advised complainant of this.
7:59 p.m., Beechwood Drive, Newbury. Complainant would like to make a report for harassment over Facebook. A male has called her several times stating he is from the Pinnacle Group and owes money to them. Complainant stated she is aware this is a scam and has already blocked her phone number and social media accounts. She said she wants this documented in case this person somehow gains access to her accounts or does not stop contacting her. Deputy attempted to contact the number provided and no one answered the phone and deputy left a voicemail message. Deputy advised complainant to contact him if any other incidents occur with this individual.
INFO REPORT
Feb. 18
1:15 p.m., High Country Drive, Hambden. Nephew of homeowners called and asked if her could come to their house and shoot his new AR-15 rifle on their property. He was told no. A few years ago he burned down a home in Wickliffe. Unknown if it was accidental or not. No charges were filed. Nephew lives with his mother in Lake County. She is out of town. Wickliffe wanted to advise if we come across him that he is usually armed but has not been a threat to law enforcement as of yet. This is for officer safety and information only. Unknown what kind of vehicles he is driving. House, property check OK.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
Feb. 22
8:38 p.m., Valley Road, Auburn. Caller states her daughter who attends Kenston came across Facebook posts advising a classmate has a hit list. Caller reached out to Bainbridge PD, but they advised her to call GCSO.
NOISE PROBLEM
Feb. 16
10:33 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Caller reports a loud party. Deputies arrived on scene and observed a large Amish party with approximately 200 Amish people in attendance. Deputies observed many Amish run away through the woods when arriving on scene. Deputies ordered everyone to dump the alcohol and call their Amish taxies for a ride home. Everyone was cleared from the property.
SUSPICIOUS
Feb. 17
1:26 a.m., Main Market Road, Troy. Walters Towing received a call from a male that needs his 2002 Lexus winched out from storage units across from Blazing Bills. Tow driver realized male messed with gate and he does not have a clicker. His vehicle is stuck on the gate, possibly a B&E situation. Male was arrested from criminal damaging, criminal trespass and obstructing official business.
Feb. 18
1:34 p.m., Kenny Drive, Hambden. Caller advised she just found her “blue healer” dog dead. Someone shot it in the head. She does not know who may have shot the dog. It was found in the neighbor’s yard. Humane Society was advised and is handling.
THREATENING
Feb. 21
1:42 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Student, 11 years old, threatened another student. He told him, “I’m going to shoot you in the head I have a gun.” In the past he has shown other students a picture of a gun. He does not have a weapon now. Deputy advised if pending. Report taken, charges to follow. Juvenile in question is in the custody of his parents.
Feb. 22
7:13 p.m., Old State Road, Hambden. 17-year-old male is getting threatening calls about a girl. Complainant has been receiving phone calls from an unknown male who is upset the complainant has been texting his girlfriend. No direct threats of harm were made. Unknown male said he wanted to meet to talk.
TRAFFIC HAZARD
Feb. 21
7:03 a.m., Leggett Road, Montville. Between 528/Dewey a bag of animal guts. They did hear shooting in the area yesterday. Caller thinks someone may be poaching. Deputy arrived on scene and observed animal parts in a black garbage bag in the middle of the roadway. No obvious signs of criminal activity were observed. Parts were moved to sign of the road. Game warden was left a message regarding possible poachers.
WEAPONS CHECK
Feb. 20
4:15 p.m., Jug Street, Burton. Amish neighbors on Tavern Road, right by where it Y’s with Jug, they are shooting guns and there are people and traffic behind their target. Caller is afraid if they miss the target they will hit someone. Caller would like a deputy to stop and her residence and speak with her. Located the backstop and determined it was not safe. They were told to stop shooting until a proper backstop was made.
