Sheriff’s Report
May 10, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office April 27 through May 4, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 397 calls during this seven-day period.

ALCOHOL OFFENSE

May 2

5:34 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Male has been buying beer and giving it to underage juveniles, a group of Mexicans. Employee is trying to keep them in the store; one buys the alcohol and hands it to a group outside that is underage. Half of the men don’t have IDs. Five males are in line checking out now. Males in question left the area before deputy was able to reach them. Advised gas station to refuse service next time they come to buy beer.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

April 30

8:54 a.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. There is a herd of horses on the road in front of the school. Female en route from Lake Erie College. It is unknown if they are her horses, but she is able to assist. Horses were caught and taken back to owner.

May 3

3:57 p.m., Hart Road, Montville. Caller states there is a large turtle on the road. Deputy advised. Turtle was able to cross the road safely without assistance.

ASSAULT       

April 29

12:51 a.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Two intoxicated males fighting at Hidden Lakes Family Campground, one has a knife. No injuries caller knows of. One male was trying to stop the other from leaving because he is drunk. He then punched them. The other male may have a “small” stab wound to his leg. No known drugs tonight. One male is bleeding. Squad to move up to patient. Report taken.

DRUGS

May 3

1:02 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. In the lost and found bin, backpack with drug paraphernalia. Meet at front desk. A glass bowl was found in book bag in lost and found. There was no way to identify owner. Bowl was destroyed at Post 2. Clear.

FOUND PROPERTY

April 27

3:43 p.m., Stafford Road, Troy. Caller’s son found six laptops on the side of Stafford Road by the bridge. Caller’s son moved them closer to the road so they are easy to spot. Deputy advised. Six laptops were recovered and will be entered into evidence.

FRAUD

May 2

4:02 p.m., Stonegate Drive, Munson. Someone used his Best Buy card to purchase a laptop for $3,708.42. Complainant further stated it occurred in New Jersey and wanted the incident on file. Complainant advised the credit card company will handle. Info given to complainant. Cleared IR only.

8:09 p.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Female opened up a checking account yesterday and then went on a website to find a “sugar daddy.” He asked her to give her checking account info to him so he could put her on the payroll. She gave him the info and then we wired fraudulent checks into her account. Chase Bank shut the account down and now she lost the $500 she had in the account and wants to make a report. Took the fraud report and assisted with completing forms. Advice given.

May 3

8 p.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. Caller took a scam call from someone saying there were the U.S. Treasury and that she owed $4,000 in back taxes. She proceeded to buy $1,800 in Google Play Cards as instructed and provide him with the pin. Caller states the mail said someone would come by tomorrow between 9:30 a.m. and noon. Deputy advised. See report.

INTOXICATED PERSON

April 29

7:49 p.m., Kinsman Road, Burton. Passerby saw a male in the ditch. They turned around the male was getting up. He’s approximately 30 years old, wearing a black overall coat. Male started walking into the tall weeds and water. Deputies located male after he walked out of the woods. He is a resident of Hopewell Services. He said he was walking to Burton for coffee. Hopewell is located in Mesopotamia, off Route 534, which is where he walked from. Deputy contacted Hopewell, which has been looking for him. Male was picked up and taken back to facility.

LITTERING

May 3

1:27 p.m., Goredon Drive, Aquilla. Her neighbor just dumped all of his trash in the lake. Caller has it on video. Report taken.

PURSUIT

April 29

11:41 p.m., Pioneer Road, Huntsburg. Trying to stop a buggy westbound on Pioneer, went through stop sign at Hayes Road. Two arrested. Report taken.

SUSPICIOUS  

May 1

12:31 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Male reports his friend used the gas station at BP and believes there may be a skimmer on one of the pumps. This occurred yesterday. Checked all pumps; no tampering found.

May 3

11:45 .m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. School Resource Officer advised of senior skip day and possible party at above or in area at a park. Teenagers smoking marijuana and drinking. To possibly occur around 1 p.m. Deputy advised. Information obtained; report taken.

THEFT

May 3

6 p.m., Old State Road, Claridon. Male said he sold a phone to another party and was given counterfeit money. Report taken.

VAGRANCY

May 2

8:57 a.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Parkman Road Department called. Landscapers mowing the park said they believe someone has made a home in the gazebo and would like someone to check it out. Subject was advised to move on.
