Sheriff’s Report
May 17, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office May 4-10, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 414 calls during this seven-day period.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

May 8

8:29 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Hambden. Neighbor is being a problem again. He is nailing up signs on the trees facing the caller’s house again. He makes vulgar signs, makes inappropriate comments in front of the caller’s young children and instigates by loitering on the property line. Caller does not want deputies at the house, as he believes it will make the issue worse. He also does not want to speak with a deputy tonight; the phone call will make him more upset. He asked dispatch document the incident. He will call and speak with a deputy of there is further problem.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

May 8

7:05 p.m., Daniel Lane, Hambden. Yelling in the background. Male saying, “I can’t believe you called the f&%@ing cops.” Unknown weapons; both parties have been drinking. Male has struck the caller several times; caller denied EMS. Two children in the home. One male arrested. Report taken.

DRUGS

May 6

6:08 a.m., Ravenna Road, Claridon. Caller states she took male into the hospital this morning after he nearly overdosed on crystal meth, heroin and crack. Caller says he is not aware the deputies have been called. Called and spoke with the ER; they advised he is calm now, however, will become agitated when the deputies arrive. Will file report.

HARASSMENT

May 7

11:39 p.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Caller says he is receiving threatening text messages from a phone number he doesn’t recognize. Text messages along the lines of “better lock your doors tonight…” Caller thinks it is either his ex or his ex’s new boyfriend. Complainant blocked suspect’s phone number. Deputy will attempt to make contact with suspect from GCSO phone.

SUSPICIOUS  

May 4

9:08 p.m., Paradise Drive, Middlefield. Caller reports he was in the woods near the old railroad track. There’s a male sitting on the bridge. Caller believes the male was meditating. Another male approached this male and asked what he was doing. Male stated he was meditating. Caller asked deputy to respond. Male checked OK; he was out enjoying the nice weather.

May 9

12:31 p.m., Wildwood Drive, Hambden. Would like to speak with a deputy in reference to dead birds she has been finding. Female located three dead chickens in her yard over the past week. Unknown where the chickens were from or how they got there. The body of the chicken appeared to have been eaten by another animal.

THEFT

May 4

11:54 a.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Female stole some items from the store. Suspect left in blue Jeep Compass. Last seen headed toward Nelson Ledges. She was high on something. TCSO and OSHP advised. Complainant does not wish to pursue charges.

May 6

11:31 a.m., Orange Lane, Auburn. Items from car. Theft of purse; inside purse were her car keys. Car keys were recovered, pursue was not. Report to follow.

8:51 p.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. Caller reports someone broke into his car and stole his checkbook. Info obtained to be entered. Deputies report from the same area from earlier in the shift.

WATER RESCUE

May 7

3:36 p.m., Valley Road, Auburn. 23-year-old male overturned a kayak; he has been in the water for over five minutes. No life jacket. He is hanging onto his friend’s kayak to stay afloat. The other kayaker does not believe she is strong enough to get them both back to shore. ODNR Division of Watercraft was notified. ODNR will not be responding unless necessary; they are at West Branch, over 45 minutes away. Notify ODNR dispatch if the situation changes.

WELFARE CHECK

May 4

9:53 p.m., Bridge Creek Trail, Auburn. Caller reports male was on a loud speaker yelling, “People just kill people and go to jail.” A second neighbor is reporting the same. A vehicle just pulled out of the drive; they believe it’s his roommate. Male is OK. He and his band are recording music. Was advised of the complaint and he stated he would keep the noise down.
