Sheriff’s Report
June 14, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 1-7, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 376 calls during this seven-day period.

CITIZEN ASSIST

June 4

8:14 a.m., Dewey Road, Thompson. Caller believes there is an animal in her bedroom closet. She advised she heard a loud thud. Raccoon and babies in closet. Deputy provided animal control numbers.

June 7

10:10 a.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Be advised received from office out of Washington reference a man who is possibly being scammed from out of the country by a female he met on the Internet for thousands of dollars. He has requested the U.S. Embassy in Malaysia and the U.S. to assist him in getting her out of the country. Spoke with male and he stated he did not need to file a fraud report. He said he contacted office for assistance with getting his future wife out of Malaysia. He insisted he was not being defrauded and did not need a fraud report. Just wanted help with getting his wife to America.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

June 2

2:33 p.m., Jackson Drive, Burton. Property line dispute. Neighbor is putting branches on my property. Spoke to neighbor. He will not throw brush over fence anymore.

FRAUD

June 4

10:42 p.m., Sherman Road, Munson. Caller was taken for approximately $2,750 to purchase a car. Will file report.

June 5

5:52 p.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Complainant has not been getting mail since May 21. He contacted post office and found his mail was being forwarded to West Palm Beach, Fla. Complainant has since canceled this and is now getting mail at residence. Complainant also has checked his credit card companies, bank and credit report, and there has been no fraudulent activity. Advice given to continue to monitor accounts.

6:30 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Subject on the phone believes he was scammed by someone alleging to be from the IRS. Subject wired money already. Report taken.

MENACING

June 4

5:40 p.m., Coachman Drive, Munson. Coworker threatened to kill me. Report taken.

POSSIBLE DUI

June 2

11:01 a.m., Shedd Road, Parkman. There is female in here that looks stoned. There is a male that is sitting in the car also. She’s been in here for over an hour. She can barely open her eyes and she is stumbling all over the place. Male is laying flat in the vehicle. Female is putting her stuff in the truck/car now, unable to wake the male up. Arrested for physical control.

12:01 p.m., Peters Road, Middlefield. There is a couple driving and they are high on meth. Mom asked caller to call the sheriff. Believe they are headed to a pawnshop. Deputy advised of call. One male detained at Geauga Pawn. Arrested and transported to jail, report to follow.

SUSPICIOUS

June 1

12:33 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Female called in and made a statement her kids have been kidnapped. Deputy spoke with her, and then spoke with the courts and JFS. Kids are said to be in protective custody.

June 2

3:33 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Female is in a vehicle, either passed out or asleep. Female was sleeping waiting for her boyfriend to get out of jail.

6:25 p.m., Terrace Drive, Middlefield. Caller states there is a note from the neighbor that seems threatening. Caller is not sure which neighbor left it. Deputy advised. Caller received a note from neighbor who advised he would come over and cut the grass if he wouldn’t. Spoke with neighbor and advised him to stay off the caller’s property. Advice given.

June 3

3:40 a.m., North Hambden Street, Chardon. Male intoxicated at the residence. Unknown who the male is; he showed up and started beating everyone up. My three friends and the male are outside fighting now. Older male in his 40s. He walked into the woods. He was on foot from his buddy’s house. Male walked away after being told the police would be called. Nobody claimed injuries or chose to file a report.

June 6

11:07 a.m., Park Way, Burton. Would like a bone checked the dog brought from woods. Deputy advised. Checked bone, which turned out to be from a deer.

THEFT

June 7

2 p.m., Edgewater Drive, Newbury. In lobby to report theft and fraud. Deputies advised. Male decided to contact his lawyer before providing a statement. This was after he was told if he lied he would be criminally charged.
