Sheriff’s Report
June 28, 2018

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 15-21, 2018. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 402 calls during this seven-day period.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

June 18

1:45 p.m., Terrace Drive, Middlefield. Complainant upset the neighbor sits outside and looks at them. No crime committed. Advice given.

FRAUD

June 18

10:57 a.m., Old State Road, Claridon. Receiving scam calls advising his grandson needs money. Would like to speak to a deputy. Deputy responded and was advised they lost no money and just wanted the incident on file. Advice given.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

June 16

12:35 p.m., Brakeman Road, Hambden. Male was choking female. There are guns in a safe. He has been drinking. Female is upstairs with her two children. Caller states male becomes violent when he drinks. She went into bathroom to talk to him and he grabbed her by the throat and choked her; she has marks around her neck. Female declining rescue. He has been physically violent in the past, but caller has never reported it due to his threats. This has happened maybe 4-5 times before, him choking her and being physically violent. Female states earlier he also was yelling at the kids and calling them the “N” word because they are biracial. Make has told caller in the past that if she called the police he would kill them and kill himself. Male arrested for DV.

FRAUD

June 16

11:08 a.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Paid a contractor to do some work for him and he did not do it. They also vandalized parts of the building. Male advised he gave money to All Services LLC to put a new roof on building. He gave $2,150 as deposit to All Services in Parma Heights. Parma Heights PD is investigating as possible fraud. Caller signed a contract. All Services went to the house and tore off part of the roof on the awning. While doing that broke part of the awning and a light. Caller advised it was civil issue.

June 21

6:56 p.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. Party in lobby to make report for fraud. Sent a fraudulent check for some tires she was trying to sell on Craigslist. Advice given. Report taken.

HARASSMENT

June 18

7:22 p.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. Caller states his daughter is being harassed. Someone has been sending her letters and calling her. Deputy advised. Report taken; photos were taken of the letter.

June 19

9:30 a.m., Thomas Drive, Middlefield. Met a male from Findlay on a dating site and now he won’t leave me alone, keeps calling from different numbers and is claiming she has his stuff and he is coming after it. She does not have anything of his. Appears to be using spoofed numbers and has no fixed address.

SUSPICIOUS

June 18

8:33 a.m., Bean Road, Munson. Neighbor is causing a problem. He is upset caller’s dogs keep coming onto his property and has threatened to shoot the dogs. Caller states they have contacted Invisible Fence, which will be out Thursday. Spoke with neighbor and he was advised to speak with the dog warden and further advised he cannot shoot the dogs and was given a trespass warning not to go over to caller’s residence for any reason.

2:01 p.m., Ravenwood Drive, Claridon. Responded to location and met with complainant, who advised she was unhappy with the doctor at Ravenwood Mental Health for keeping her waiting before being seen, cancel her appointment and giving up on her when she was in a time of need. Complainant was advised her complaint is civil not criminal. Advice given.

June 19

3:49 p.m., Bundysburg Road, Huntsburg. A balloon fell out of the sky with a name tied to it. It says the person was locked up and held captive in New York. Caller would like a deputy to view the balloon. No other information written on balloon. This was most likely a prank.

June 20

5:47 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Male requesting to meet with a deputy regarding a suspicious transaction he was just part of on Craigslist. Caller believes he was mailed a fake check. He received a check for $2,350 for a couch he was selling on Craigslist for $1,000. He was advised this was a scam and not to cash the check.

THEFT

June 15

11:59 a.m., Main Market Road, Troy. Last night a white Hispanic male in a red Dodge Avenger, no plates, came into the Marathon station looking for directions and cigarettes. When clerk turned around to get something else for the customer, he grabbed the bag and took around $83 in cigarettes. Took off in a red 4-door car west of 422. Report taken.

June 16

6 p.m., Main Market Road, Troy. Silverado with large boat on the back. Caller stated someone stole his fishing poles and tackle, and would like to make a report. Report taken.

June 19

5:16 p.m., Fowlers Mill Road, Munson. Caller reports he has had three flags stolen from his mailbox. Wanted incident documented and was advised to set up a trail camera.

June 21

11:36 a.m., Tewksbury Lane, Claridon. Owner advised her American flag was stolen last night. She just wanted to let the GCSO know and wanted extra patrol.

2:18 p.m., Hayes Road, Middlefield. Theft of 10 gallons of gas and 10 gallons of diesel fuel. Fuel was in two blue kerosene cans filled with diesel and $26.30 worth of gas.

THREATENING

June 15

8:36 p.m., Leader Road, Hambden. Wife gave out cell number to a guy who is now threatening caller’s life. No direct threats of violence were made toward caller. Met with caller who stated his wife had given his phone number to an unknown male who left three messages on caller’s phone stating he is having an affair with caller’s wife. Advice given to file for protection order and to work on getting full custody of the children. Caller was advised to contact GCSO for further assistance.
