Sheriff’s Report
March 7, 2019

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 22-28, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 424 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

Feb. 22

9:34 p.m., Hosford Road, Chardon Township. Caller believes 40 rabbits and a dog are locked in a garage of a home that burned down and no one is caring for them. A message was left for humane officer to check property. Multiple rabbits in cages and a cat in the garage. Left message for homeowner. There is food in garage and appears there is water. House is secured and does not look like anyone is living there. Owner was contacted. He keeps the dog at night and the other animals are being cared for on a regular basis. Humane society canceled.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Feb. 23

10:40 a.m., Terrace Drive, Middlefield. Husband is sabotaging all attempts to get rid of the cats and the house. Going through a divorce currently with the male that is doing it. Deputy advised. Husband and wife are not living together. The complainant the wife spray painted the word FREE and the husband’s cell number on the trailer, which both the husband and wife own but do not live in. Husband received a call about the free trailer and drove to the trailer and covered up the FREE and his cell phone number with spray paint. Husband was contacted and stated trailer cannot be sold until divorce is final. Advice given to all parties.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Feb. 28

4:04 p.m., Bundysburg Road, Middlefield. Disagreement between owner and a furnace repair company about services rendered. Complainant was pressured to purchase a new furnace under duress. Advice given.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Feb. 24

3:44 a.m., Longview Drive, Newbury. Caller says his girlfriend punched him in the mouth. She and her father are drunk. Female woke the male up, started screaming at him and then punched him. Caller’s 3-year-old son still in the residence. Caller is now outside. Father is threatening to fight the caller. All parties inside the house; caller is in the bedroom with his son. Two arrested.

FRAUD

Feb. 23

9:30 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Her son passed away last month and his credit card was used to pay a $75 (cash) municipal court fee on Feb. 22. Complainant wanted to know location of the transaction and who used his name. Advised complainant that all court fees are paid at Chardon Municipal Court and to contact court for further info.

Feb. 27

8:51 p.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Just received a call from a foreign-speaking person who said they were with Medicare and needed my card info because they were sending out new plastic cards. Gave them my card info and them looked up on the computer and saw it was a possible scam. Called Medicare and they advised it was a scam. Being handled by Medicare; complainant out no money.

HARASSMENT

Feb. 28

3:32 p.m., Jug Street, Troy. Spoke with mother who said her daughter is having issues with a boy at school. Daughter’s counselor said they should get a restraining order against the boy, but mother does not want to get the boy in legal trouble. Mother was advised she could speak with School Resource Officer about the issues and her daughter should also speak with him about this. Mother said she would call SRO and have daughter see him as well. Advice given.

INFO REPORT

Feb. 22

12:45 p.m., Old State Road, Hambden. Complainant was cleaning out the ditch and noticed the neighbor had thrown seven or eight bags of garbage in there with his personal info on it. Complainant took the bags and out them back into neighbor’s driveway. He is reporting it now in case there are any problems with the neighbor in the future. Complainant was advised not to confront him but to call the sheriff’s office should something else transpire.

MEDICAL

Feb. 27

2:51 a.m., Fairway View, Auburn. Elderly male drank three pints of vodka. Feels ill. Male states he is not intoxicated. Now he defecated and urinated in his pants. He’s in the master bedroom. Male states he stopped drinking at 5 p.m. Male being transported to the ER.

SUSPICIOUS

Feb. 25

5:05 p.m., Mulberry Road, Munson. A male came to the door while his wife was home alone and said he was from auditor’s office and needed to inspect the generator. He had no ID on him and was gone very quickly. Male said he was just confirming a generator had been installed in August. Male did not request to come inside. Husband advised it appeared the male look at generator then left. Visit appears to be legit at this time. Husband is going to auditor’s office tomorrow to confirm they did send out an employee and he will contact me if not to update this report.

THEFT

Feb. 23

10 a.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon Township. Younger male attempted to steal gloves from Dollar General. Manager on duty caught the male trying to put the item in his pants. Male told to return the property and leave the store, which he did. Manager said he does not know who the male is, but the male was in the store before with another group of males who were all asked not to return to the store.

Feb. 26

4:19 p.m., Dianne Drive, Newbury. In lobby for theft report. Party advised she located her stolen shop vac at Geauga Pawn. Report taken.
