The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Oct. 31 through Nov. 6. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 303 calls during this seven-day period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

Oct. 31

2:15 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Sick raccoon in caller’s front yard. The caller wants a deputy to respond. He is concerned because his grandkids get off the bus there. Deputy left message for owner. Caller called back and advised he lost sight of the animal and would like to cancel deputy response.

SUSPICIOUS

Nov. 4

2:11 p.m., Center St., Parkman. Com-plainant is advised she is not receiving her mail, and she went to sign for a certified letter and the post office advised that someone had already picked it up. But complainant or her husband had not. Request to file a report. Deputy advised. Complainant described the problem she is having at the Post Office in Parkman. Due to nature of complaint, deputy advised complainant that the matter should be taken up with the Postal Inspector to investigate the situation. Deputy advised complainant local law enforcement does not have authority over federal agencies, and this particular agency has their own team of investigators that are assigned and employed by USPS to handle matters related to complainant’s concerns.

Nov. 5

7:23 p.m., Grey Friar Way, Munson. Someone has been flashing lasers into the house from outside. It has been going on for about 5-10 minutes. It was coming from the rear and then it was coming from the front of the house too. It was a green laser. Deputy met with complainant and also check the area. Subjects were unable to be located. Complainant will call if they see the laser again.

Nov. 6

10:01 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. blue Ford Taurus, possible drug deal. Juveniles get out and get into the back seat, appears to be passing something. Three different cars have pulled up to the blue car, got in the back seat and then got out and left. Deputy advised. Unable to locate. Three cars in the parking lot, one was a light blue, which was occupied by an elderly female.

Nov. 6

12:59 p.m., Taylor May Road, Auburn. Black truck at the parking area where they fish at LaDue. It sounds like the one the paper said was involved in a robbery. Trooper advised. Black 2000 Ford Excursion parked in the parking lot. White male in hunting clothes seen walking back into public walking area.

THEFT

Nov. 1

3:05 p.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Male states that over night his mailbox was stolen along with his mail that was inside. The mailbox is white and plastic. Deputy spoke with complainant. He advised someone stole the mailbox during the night. He suspects his neighbor because he has called the game warden in regards to his dogs. He already replaced the box and notified the postal service.

Nov. 5

5:00 p.m., Auburn Road, Auburn. Caller states a male came to her house and advised he was a surveyer. Caller attempted to show him where the property line was and she thought he was behind her, and when she looked back, he was gone. Caller went back to her house and his vehicle was gone as well. Hispanic male, black pick-up. Possibly another person was in the vehicle. Evidence seized. Extra patrol requested.

Nov. 6

9:36 a.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. On Tuesday evening, caller’s cell phone was stolen while at basketball practice. Caller is 17 years old. Caller was in school and asked to call when she was home or come to the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office for a report, she declined. She advised she didn’t want to make a statement or have charges against the person. She just wanted to see the messages that were being sent from her phone. Caller advised to call if she wants a report.

THREATENING

Nov. 3

5:46 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Thompson. Caller has been told by the park management to keep an eye on the speeders in the park. He has been having a problem with a silver Kia SUV. He does not know who the owner is. Today he yelled at them to slow down because the speed limit is only 10 mph and he is sure they were going at least 30-35 mph. When he told the driver to slow down, the driver got out of his car and yelled, “why don’t you come say that to my face?!” Caller believed this to threatening. The complainant stated that he was told by the park manager to yell at people when they fly through the park. The complainant was advised that he should seek other ways of handling the situation, since people may yell back. Advice given. The complainant requested extra patrols for reckless drivers.

VANDALISM

Nov. 2

5:07 p.m., Wisner Road, Chardon. The caller advised a vacant house on his street has been vandalized. The windows have been broken out. The caller does not need to meet with a deputy. Deputy advised. Old vandalism from two weeks ago. Bank owns the house, plywood now over the broken windows. The police department is giving special attention to the home, surrounded by Arboretum property.

WELFARE CHECK

Oct. 31

11:52 a.m., Sperry Road, Newbury. Caller is from the Department on Aging. She is requesting we check on a 99-year-old. She is not answering her phone and she did not answer the door for meal delivery. The TV is on but they could not see into the residence. There are vehicles in the driveway. The caller has tried to reach emergency contact parties. She is unable to reach anyone. The grandson is en route from Kirtland to meet with the deputy at the residence. Deputy arrived on scene and spoke with the grandson, who advised his grandmother was fine and she was in the bathroom.

Nov. 1

8:37 a.m., Laural Drive, Newbury. 76-year-old female woke up and her purse was missing. She states nothing in the house was tempered with, doors and windows are secure. Deputy advised her to retrace her steps. She states she was on the Center bus. Advised to call bus garage to see if anyone turned purse in and to call and cancel all cards. Female was very nervous and confused and kept saying she didn’t know what to do. Advised multiple times to call above places. Will send for welfare check. Deputy arrived on location. Female checks OK. Purse located under some clothes.
