The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office July 12-18, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 438 calls during this period.
CITIZEN ASSIST
July 13
5:21 p.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. Caller is calling on her adult son. He has been selling caller’s property to buy heroin. Caller states she fears for her safety. He has threatened his girlfriend. Report taken.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
July 17
6:33 p.m., Tavern Road, Burton. Caller’s teenage son hit her husband. Father showed up from work and found son intoxicated on the floor. One arrested.
FRAUD
July 12
11:03 a.m., Lawnview Boulevard, Hambden. Spoke with male in the lobby. He said about one week ago he answered an ad for vitamin water online. He said the ad stated he would get $250 per month for advertising vitamin water and all he had to go was have his car wrapped with their logo.
A couple days later man received a check from the company for $2,389.27. He said he called phone number and spoke and explained he received the check and was not sure why. He was told he was to pay for the car wrap to be put on. He said that was not part of the deal and asked to speak with a manager. He said another person got on the phone and said it was a mistake and he was not supposed to have received a check. He was told he would be emailed directions on how to get the money back to them. He followed the directions and obtained money orders for $1,650 and sent them to the address they provided.
Male said he checked his bank account and it was negative $1,201.03. He said he called the bank and discovered the check had bounced. He attempted to call the company but the numbers were no good. Male went to his bank and was told he had been scammed and needed to file a report with sheriff’s office.
July 18
4:18 p.m., Clay Street, Huntsburg. Male in lobby to make report for fraud. Deputy advised. Received a check and letter that they won a lottery. Advised not to give any information out.
INFO REPORT
July 15
1:13 a.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. Caller says there is a large black bear in the area of his residence. He wanted to advise GCSO in case it goes in the roadway. Caller says the bear is now tearing into neighbor’s bird feeders across the street. Deputy unable to locate the bear. Complainant will contact ODNR and report the sighting in the morning.
PURSUIT
July 16
4:14 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Attempting to stop a motorcycle doing wheelies. Driver turned into a field and into woods. No located.
SUSPICIOUS
July 12
12:49 p.m., Madison Road, Huntsburg. There are two large circles about 9-feet wide in front yard. We noticed them two days ago. Caller showed deputy a spot in her front yard where some of the grass is taller than the rest of the yard. Taller grass forms what appears to be a circle. Woman had questions about what could cause the grass to grow in that matter. Advice given.
July 13
4:42 a.m., Sidley Road, Thompson. Caller states white male with blonde hair and blue shirt with jeans was trying to break into her shed. Caller states she set her alarm off and the male took off. Caller has video. Male is no longer in area. Report taken.
5:48 a.m., Jo Ann Drive, Middlefield. Caller advised someone stole the screen out of her window. Not sure if someone was attempted to break in or just steal the screen. Deputy advised. Female called back to advise police response is no longer needed. The cat is responsible for popping out the screen.
July 17
1:14 p.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. Caller reports she is manager at the Dollar General on Chardon Road and she believes that a customer that came in is a wanted person in Thompson. She says they have video and pictures of his vehicle with a good plate. Info obtained.
THEFT
July 13
10:48 a.m., Goredon Drive, Aquilla. Caller reports two men in a red truck drove by, got out of their truck and stole her driveway markers. Caller says she followed them to Turner Drive.
THREATENING
July 18
7:48 a.m., Beechwood Drive, Newbury. Black pickup threatened to blow his horn every morning before work. He also threatened to kill my dog. This is all over a barking dog. He is the neighbor on the next street. He was over here drunk last night with a friend. Caller is calling back with the male’s address. Follow up will be conducted later.
