Sept. 13-19, 2019

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 13-19, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 362 calls during this period.

AGENCY ASSIST

Sept. 13

5:31 a.m., Golden Pond Drive, Auburn. Secret service attempting a warrant. Will meet deputy at church for briefing at 6 a.m.

Sept. 16

2:41 p.m., Hopkins Road, Mentor. Request for a bomb dog from Mentor through LCSO. Assist Mentor police with a school search for suspected gun and ammo in a locker. Mentor Middle School received a threat of a kid saying he was going to shoot up the school at the end of the day when everyone is leaving. Mentor police requested K-9 to search the areas where the suspected had access. K-9 searched the areas and did not locate anything. Mentor police advised areas were clear.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

Sept. 14

7:39 p.m., Jug Street, Burton. Caller believes the Amazon driver might have taken her black Pug puppy, 12 weeks old. Family was in the pool and puppy on the porch; they got out of the pool and the puppy was gone and an Amazon package was on the porch. Deputy advised. On Sept. 15 a woman reached out to caller and stated a friend of hers who works for Amazon said he found a dog walking down the street and could not locate the owner so he took it home with him. Caller confirmed from a photo it was her dog. Woman said caller could come and pick up puppy at her residence. Caller advised to contact local police department if she goes there and an issue arises over the dog.

DRUGS

Sept. 13

11:46 p.m., Ravenwood Drive, Claridon. Guardian dropped of belongings for resident, who arrived for a one-week stay at the hospital after an overdose, and they found drugs inside. Resident is seeking treatment and says it wasn’t hers. They will give deputy more information on location. They placed the items in a biohazard bag and would like deputy to pick it up. They believe it might be meth. The make-up case along with its contents will be put into evidence for destruction.

Sept. 14

10:01 a.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. LaDue public hunting area on Old State Road, just north of Nauvoo Road on west side of road. Caller found large marijuana plants, two or three locations in the hunting area. Deputy advised of call. One plant pulled.

FLOODINGS

Sept. 13

10:15 p.m., Butternut Road, Burton. Caller says there is water flooding into her basement and they cannot get it out fast enough. They need help getting the water out. Complainant stated the water has slowed down and the FD was already on scene.

FRAUD

Sept. 16

3:31 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Daughter received two checks for $2,250, one from South Carolina and one from Arkansas. Letter with the checks is asking for account numbers from the bank.

SUSPICIOUS

Sept. 14

1:54 a.m., Music Street, Newbury. Out checking on a male in the ditch. Male found laying in a ditch on Auburn Road.  He was found intoxicated and taken into custody. Transported to jail.

Sept. 14

6:16 p.m., Kinsman Road, Burton.  Long blonde har male naked near BFG Flowers, got out of a Jeep and then went into the cornfield on south side of the road. Initial call was from a female yelling into the phone that he man was running naked. Drone team activated. BVFD requesting MFFD ladder truck. Male is laying on the side of Georgia Road near White Road. Drone team canceled. Caller said male became irate and then defecated and urinated on himself. He then took off his clothes, jumped out of her Jeep and ran into cornfield. Male transported to hospital for evaluation and treatment. Report to follow.

Sept. 18

8:37 a.m., Sherman Road, Munson. Read on nextdoor.com about an older blue sedan with temp tags and a DIY flashing light on top going mailbox to mailbox stealing mail and opening credit cards. Caller said he just saw it in front of his house, sped away north on Bass Lake Road. Caller was unable to get a plate. Deputy checked area. UTL vehicle.

4:26p.m., Knotty Pine Lane, Hambden. Caller said his daughter’s phone was stolen from the school bus. He said he used Google to track it down and it came up at a home of another girl that rides the bus. Juvenile took others cell phone. Found in woods on property. Father wants charges filed.

Sept. 19

12:51 p.m., Pioneer Road, Huntsburg. Caller thinks someone is wandering the house at night. Daughter stated she was sexually assaulted and was drugged. Daughter is 19. Deputy spoke with mother who advised he daughter was assaulted last Tuesday while she was sleeping in bed with her sister. Deputy checked home for anything suspicious and found nothing. Mother was concerned that there was a camera set up somewhere because this suspicious activity only happens when no adults are around. She mentioned she believes Amish peepers were responsible. Daughter advised to contact another deputy if she wished to speak with her. Clear.

 VANDALISM

Sept. 16

3:43 p.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. Daughter was ordered to give caller back her iPhone per the courts. The iPhone was damaged and smelled like it had been burnt. Caller believes her daughter put the phone in the microwave.
