Dec. 20-25, 2019

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 20-25, 2019. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 256 calls during this period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

Dec. 20

1:45 p.m., Ledge Road, Thompson. My dog is in the middle of the pond on the ice. She is in the water, about 20 feet in. It’s a golden retriever. She been in the water 15 minutes.

Dec. 22

3:01 p.m., Rapids Road, Troy. Dog fell through the ice. Family is trying to throw large rocks to break the ice back to shore. No people are in or on the pond. Dog was rescued from the pond.

Dec. 24

2:47 p.m., Clay Street, Huntsburg. Horse fell through the ice in the pond. Horse is out of the water. Homeowner wants to cancel.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Dec. 22

12:28 a.m., Hobart Road, Parkman. Caller advised his longtime girlfriend has not been home in a couple days. He wanted to know how long she has to be gone from his residence to be considered not living there anymore. Deputy explained there is no set time and that if caller wanted her gone he would have to evict her. Deputy explained how to do this. Caller also asked about getting a TPO. Caller thanked deputy for his time and ended contacted.  

DOMESTIC DISPUTE

Dec. 24

3:27 a.m., Nicki Lane, Hambden. Caller reports she is arguing with her husband. They are arguing about infidelity. Both parties have been drinking and got into an argument over jealousy. No threats or violence. Both parties advised they worked out their issue and are fine now and going to bed.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

Dec. 25

8:08 p.m., Mock Orange Lane, Auburn. Was attacked by his brother-in-law. Choked him. Brother may have a weapon in the car. Caller is inside the bathroom now with the door locked. Brother-in-law is now outside. Parties have been drinking. Male is bleeding from his chin and tongue.

FRAUD

Dec. 22

3:06 p.m., Burton Heights Boulevard, Burton. Female caller advised she gave credit card number and SSN out to a scam email. She said she was scammed over on Apple ID account. No transactions have occurred and for safe measure the card was canceled. No signs of personal info being used at this time, but complainant was provided advice to monitor. Suspicious incident documented at this time.

ROAD RAGE

Dec. 25

7:35 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Gray Grand Prix continues to run into the caller. Almost to 528; caller in a black Tahoe. After responding to a road rage incident in Middlefield, one male arrested on domestic violence, child endangerment, criminal damaging and disorderly charges. Report to follow.

SUSPICIOUS

Dec. 20

7:22 p.m., Meadowlark Lane, Newbury. Caller is an Amazon delivery person. He delivered a package at the house and he heard “loud pounding” coming from inside the garage. He thinks someone was trying to get his attention or they need help. Caller left the area. Deputy spoke with mother and her son, who informed deputy son was hanging a television mount on the wall of his bedroom that is located directly above the garage. Garage was checked and nothing suspicious was located.

10:21 p.m., Twin Oaks Trail, Chardon. A drone has been flying in the area and was last seen by the back of the family farm five minutes ago. The resident thinks someone is peeking in windows. Sheriff advised them to call when it was seen. Checked the area; did not observe any drones nor persons out operating one. Spoke to caller as well. Advice given.

Dec. 21

6:35 p.m., Oakstone Trail, Chardon. Drone has been looking in their window. Ongoing issue. It is now behind development. Deputy sat in area for a while; UTL on drone or anybody possible operating one. Spoke to complainant as well. Advice given. Call reopened. Another caller reported drone hovering over Sandy Oaks cul de sac for 30 minutes. Second caller believes the drone is a “peeping tom.” Complainant pointed out a light in the sky off in the distance that she said was a drone. They said it was closer to the houses earlier and they were able to hear it. No drone observed while on scene, other than far off distance light.

Dec. 22

2:08 a.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. White male in his 20s with short hair is yelling at the Circle K employee behind the counter. Caller said she heard the male say something about a gun. Employee signaled the woman to call the police. She is in the bathroom. One male arrested. Report taken.

Dec. 23

5:24 p.m., Sterling Glen Lane, Auburn. Black Land Cruiser has been in cul de sac for a few days. No one knows who it belongs to. Owner located. Vehicle is a Christmas present that is being hidden from his wife. Complainant advised.

Dec. 25

10:50 p.m., Oakstone Trail, Chardon. Drone in the area again looking in windows. Caller reported her daughter observed a drone from a window outside their house. They observed it go to the southwest and down and out of sight in the area of Roryanne Drive. Deputy checked area and UTL.

THEFT

Dec. 21

8:04 a.m., Market Place Drive, Bainbridge. Two females in the store. This is the third day in a row for shoplifting. One female in black hoodie. Second female pushing a child in a cart. They are still in store. All the items that were stolen yesterday are in the vehicle. Female with the infant is in infant apparel department. They load the cart, steal bags off the back wall and then bag it up and push it out the door. A third female is wearing camo jacket. Other female is now in electronics. She still has child with her. Female with the child is not by the home and pharmacy entrance. She is heading toward lawn and garden. She is getting in line to pay. Arrested for theft committed on Dec. 19.

12:48 p.m., Kinsman Road, Middlefield. Theft of a furnace.

THREATENING

Dec. 23

11:51 a.m., Rapids Road, Burton. Male subject pulled a gun on caller and his son at L&S Storage in Newbury. Caller is now home. Caller thinks male pulled the gun because caller honked his horn at him. Snub nose pistol and a knife in other hand. Male did not fire weapon. Report taken. Unable to get ahold of the accused party. Notice left at this residence to call the GCSO. Witness statement collected. Advice provided.

TRAFFIC OFFENSE

Dec. 21

7:41 p.m., Heath Road, Chester. Caller upset about the traffic due to Christmas lights at Bethlehem Hills. She is unable to get out of her driveway and was told by trustees to call and make a report every time it happens. Deputy she would assist caller if needed. Caller still unhappy with traffic situation and requested the sheriff office either shut the business down, shut off all traffic going to the business or reroute the traffic. Advice given and caller said she would contact the sheriff on Monday.
