The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 31 through Feb. 6, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 340 calls during this period.

AGENCY ASSIST

Jan. 31

1:58 a.m., West Jefferson Street, Jefferson. SWAT call out. Barricaded subject. Male in custody.

DISORDERLY

Feb. 5

6:04 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Caller observed male yelling at clerk at Dollar General, mentioning his girlfriend. Deputies responded. Male said his girlfriend was being followed and propositioned by clerk. The in-store video does not show clerk following girl and clerk denied any wrongdoing. Male claims he observed clerk following girlfriend and then told him, “No means no,” and to leave her alone. Conflicting statements were received, no threats were made and there was not any physical contact. Clerk advised on stalking law and further advised that outside of routine theft prevention, he is not to follow or proposition customers.

DRUGS

Feb. 5

8:33 a.m., Ravenwood Drive, Claridon. 15-month-old female tested positive for meth in drug screen. Spoke with case manager. More documents and information needed for further investigation.

FRAUD

Jan. 31

4:35 p.m., Troy Oaks Drive, Troy. Caller reported a suspicious phone call. A message was left for caller from a Texas caller stating their assets would be seized if they did not return the call. Caller returned the call and was asked to purchase a bond or federal agents were going to show up at their door and arrest him and his wife. Caller was asked for his address and bank information. Caller provided bank name only; no account information was provided. Deputy told caller to put his bank on alert for suspicious activity and not provide personal or bank information to anyone over the phone. Deputy explained identity theft and telecommunications fraud are very prevalent. Advice given.

Feb. 3

10:45 a.m., Fairmount Road, Newbury. Sold an ATV. Complainant currently staying with his daughter in Chester. Counterfeit $100 bills were used. Bills are at Chester Huntington Bank inside Giant Eagle. All complainant has is buyer’s first name. He left on the ATV and said his aunt lives nearby. Went left on Fairmount, drove down and heading back toward Auburn Road. He reached out on FB marketplace. $1,400 total. Deputy advised.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

Jan. 31

3:39 p.m., Leader Road, Hambden. Group of juveniles keeps harassing caller’s son. This is an ongoing problem. They throw snowballs at him, hit him and call him names. Deputy spoke with 10- and 11-year-old children and their parents. Advised all parties to ignore each other since they cannot seem to get along. Each child’s story varied on who started the incident.

Feb. 5

1:59 p.m., Auburn Road, Newbury. Would like to speak to a deputy regarding communications between students and possibly sending of photos. Report taken.

PURSUIT

Feb. 3

1:09 a.m., U.S. 422, Bainbridge. Red SUV 100 mph, eastbound 422. Passing SR 44. Passing LaDue. Bainbridge believes Solon is terminating. No plate. OSHP en route. OSHP out with a white Toyota on 422 west of 528. Same owner as red SUV. OSHP requests one GCSO unit meet OSHP units at Troy FD. GCSO units do not have eyes on vehicle anymore; deputy saw something go around back. AT&T and Sprint PING for target. Assisted Solon.

SUSPICIOUS

Jan. 31

12:40 p.m., Old State Road, Claridon. Two white males in a white older panel van. No front plate; rear plate was covered. Came to caller’s door stating they could save resident money on electric bill. Resident believes it was a scam.

2:34 p.m., King Arthur Court, Newbury. 77-year-old man texting caller’s teenage daughter. Would like to speak to a deputy. Older man thought he was texting his granddaughter. Texts stated nothing criminal. 77-year-old stated to deputy it was his first time texting.

Feb. 1

9:57 p.m., Durkee Road, Burton. Deputy was following several vehicles on what ordinarily is a very quiet road, Durkee. Deputy learned from the Winter Road Rally coordinator that the 165-mile winter rally travels through Geauga County in search of such roads. Rally on Durkee is over. There may be other complainants. Vehicle from the original call was GOA.

Feb. 4

8:58 p.m., Park Drive, Middlefield. Caller is requesting extra patrol for young males going into people’s homes, sheds and buildings, stealing miscellaneous items and food. Caller believes these young males live in the park as well, but he does not know their names. Deputy met with caller, who requested extra patrol.

THEFT

Feb. 1

10:58 a.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Caller believes her neighbor stole her zero-turn lawn mower. Advice given.

Feb. 4

8:25 a.m., Waterfowl Lane, Munson. Caller’s birds are missing. He noticed yesterday. Thirty-six parrots were taken from the home yesterday, including their cages and supplies. Caller believes his wife may have taken them to her house. They are partners in business with the parrots. Attempted follow up with wife, who would not answer the door.

Feb. 5

10 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Theft of catalytic converters. Report taken.

 THREATENING

Feb. 6

3:55 a.m. Caller says he is being threatened over the internet. Caller thinks they wanted a nude photo and he sent them one. The email now wants $1,000 or threaten to release it. Now the email won’t leave him alone. Caller met female on “Let’s Shag” dating site. Occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Female requested a nude photo be sent to her email and caller sent one. Female then demanded $1,000 in Money Grams to prevent her from sending the photo to his family and friends. She claims she is from Aurora. Caller will change his email as the same type of scam occurred to him in 2019. Deputy will attempt to locate any information on the listed email.

 VANDALISM

Feb. 1

9:18 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Caller’s vehicles were vandalized overnight. Vulgar words were spray painted on their vehicles. Caller can see foot prints. Report taken.
