The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 14-20, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 377 calls during this period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Feb. 19
7:09 p.m., Snow Road, Auburn. Dog has a wire wrapped around his neck and it is choking him. Having a hard time breathing. Dog and caller in distress. Unable to get the cord off the dog’s neck. Caller will take dog to the vet.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
Feb. 15
9:47 p.m., Clay Street, Huntsburg. Neighbor was banging on the door in basement. She is no longer doing it, but it is an ongoing problem. This occurred half hour ago. Caller just wants it documented. He thinks she is sleeping now and he is ready to go to bed and does not want to talk to anyone. He wants it documented because he believes charges are pending with prosecutor’s office.
Feb. 18
9:42 p.m., Rosewood Drive, Chardon. Caller advised he is being “terrorized” by a snow plow driver and his “family is in danger.” Snow plow man told caller he did 15 pushes this year, but he has not done that many. He is also upset snow plow man is using a company’s equipment when he is working on the side, not for the company. Snow plow man is coming to caller’s home, calling and texting him asking for money. No threats have been made. Civil dispute over paying the bill for the snow plow season. Snow plow driver advised to stay off property; he stated he understood. Advice given to handle through civil court.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Feb. 20
12:28 p.m., Kile Road, Claridon. Caller says her husband is calling her names and dumping beer over her head. Husband has not hit her tonight, but has in the past. Caller says she doesn’t know if her husband is drunk tonight. Caller says he does not have access to any weapons in the house. Caller had some beer tonight. Caller says he has thrown her around, choked her out and pushed her over. Caller says she does not need a rescue squad. Deputies met with caller and husband. Caller spoke with slurred speech and appeared to be intoxicated. Husband was going to leave for the night. Caller advised to file for a protection order. Husband said he came home drunk and was trying to go to bed and caller would not leave him alone. He said he was trying to leave when deputies showed up. Deputies stood by while husband left.
FRAUD
Feb. 18
7:15 p.m., Addington Court, Newbury. Phone scam out $300. Deputy met with complainant who stated a virus had locked up her computer. She followed the virus’s instructions and paid “tech support” $300 in a Target gift card. She stated she has already locked all of her credit reports and just wanted GCSO to be aware of the scam. Advice given.
Feb. 19
5:31 p.m., Hosmer Road, Parkman. Caller received a call that stated, “Your Social Security Number was found to be used in Southwest Texas, press 1 to speak to an officer.” Caller did not contact the number. Caller informed of attempted scam and advised to check with credit bureaus.

Feb. 20
8:27 a.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Caller wanted to advise she will be putting up signs at the corner of Waterfowl and Ohio 44 to protest drug and alcohol recovery.
MEDICAL
Feb. 19
5:14 p.m., Edgehill Drive, Newbury. Caller states his es-girlfriend, 42-year-old female, difficulty breathing, cracked ribs. Female said she was physically assaulted by an Idlewood Drive resident. The assault took place at Elm Road residence and victim was prevented from calling 911. Witness statements collected. Both stated in writing the heard and person physically assault and injure the victim. Male arrested on aggravated assault and assault charges. Report to follow.
SUSPICIOUS
Feb. 14
3:53 a.m., Nash Road, Troy. Male keeps running out into traffic about one mile east of the fire hall. White male, dressed all in black. Caller said he jumped in front of his car and then did the same to another driver behind him. It appears car behind caller may have stopped and talked to the male. Possible firearm. Caller believes he may be intoxicated or high. OSHP has two units on way. One arrested.
Feb. 15
9:33 a.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Hambden. Caller said there is an elderly male in the area hitchhiking and it is really cold. Caller did not see a vehicle in the area, so she is unsure why he is out there. 72-year-old male ride to Huntington Bank.
Feb. 18
2:12 p.m., Woodin Road, Hambden. Need a report for stuff thrown in the water treatment plant. Deputy advised. Unknown person placed fence/lattice and had tools into the water at the treatment center. No suspects at this time.
Feb. 20
9:57 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Caller can overhear his neighbors talking. They said they are going to come over and take his pizza. He advised he does not believe they are deadly people and a drive-by by the deputies will probably set them straight.
