March 6-12, 2020
The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 6-12, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 382 calls during this period.
FRAUD
March 6
5:07 p.m., Park Drive, Middlefield. Someone ordered a cell phone under caller’s account back in January 2019 and he would like to file a report. Assisted complainant in filing with Transunion.
March 10
11:35 a.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Computer ordered online and shipped to Las Vegas. Report taken.
INTOXICATED PERSON
March 6
10:34 p.m., Grant Street, Hambden. Out with a male stumbling with a possible open container.
MISSING PERSON
March 9
11:21 a.m., Bell Street, Newbury. 13-year-old has been missing since Friday evening. He was picked up by an unknown subject. He is not known to use drugs or alcohol. He is not on any medications. Son contacted mother while responding officer was on location with mother. Mom will drive to Niles to pick up her son and will handle discipline.
SUSPICIOUS
March 7
12:23 p.m., Valley Road, Auburn. Some people walking the road advised deputy of several remains of fox skeletons. ODNR will be advised.
12:56 p.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. A black male came into the store and wanted $500 put onto a card. The male was in a green minivan. Clerk advised to lock the doors until deputy arrives. Kirtland advised. One male had dreadlocks. Plate on the vehicle was yellow. Three males entered the store and then separated. Male at the counter was demanding the cashier to put $550 on a card they did not accept. Male got frustrated and left the store. The other two males purchased $3.03 worth of merchandise and then left. Van took off west on Route 6 and didn’t return. Kirtland advised. Deputy didn’t locate the vehicle.
5:22 p.m., Lost Lakes Trail, Auburn. Caller states his wife moved out of the house earlier this week and filed for divorce. Someone knocked on the door and there are foot prints on the property and someone wrote “die” in the snow. No direct threats made, no suspects. Advice given. He said he would be calling his soon-to-be ex-wife to work things out and ask if she wrote the message.
March 10
4:04 p.m., Owen Road, Parkman. Safe thrown into the ditch. Caller advised there are Huntington Bank checks all over the road. Door to the safe is closed. Stolen safe and check was located in the ditch. Items stolen in Medina in an overnight burglary. Items seized and transported to GCSO evidence room for Medina Township Police.
THEFT
March 11
10:27 a.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Theft of Matthew Rambo yard sign. Deputy advised. Sign was taken sometime during the night. No potential suspects.
1:50 p.m., Kile Road, Claridon. Social security card and birth certificate stolen sometime in the last two years. They were in a briefcase and it was found today busted open. Deputy advised of pending call. No suspects. Advice given.
VANDALISM
March 6
12:21 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. They need to file a vandalism report. Building J door is on the side. Spoke with owner who said sometime in the past couple days someone cut the strap holding the granite slabs in place and pushed two of them over, causing them to break. Owner said he doesn’t have any proof at this time, but believes it was a former employee. Owner advised he was going to check with the landlord to see if there are any cameras in the area.
