The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office March 13-19, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 303 calls during this period.
ASSAULT
March 19
1:35 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. A male drove by in a black HHR, going toward Orwell, sprayed caller with pepper spray. Three people sprayed. Nobody needs rescued. Under investigation.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
March 19
4:58 p.m., Locust Grove Drive, Hambden. Ex-girlfriend has been posting offensive comments and allegation on Instagram about the caller. Deputy advised and left message for female regarding posts she made on Instagram.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
March 16
10:11 p.m., Morgan Road, Montville. Husband locked wife in the bathroom. He has been drinking. She is not locked in; he just blocked her with his body. There are guns in the house. Nothing physical. Verbal between husband and wife due to husband drinking and stresses of having a new child. No violence nor threats. Wife feel safe at home; husband called for a ride and staying at a friend’s house.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
March 14
5:35 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Caller stated she was involved in a domestic with husband. No weapons at house, no alcohol or drugs. Caller was hit in the face with his fist; she has denied rescue. Husband did run into the kitchen and grab a butcher knife and was threatening to stab himself in the stomach. When caller left the house, husband was in the driveway. Husband assaulted his wife and was arrested for DV.
FRAUD
March 18
10:51 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Caller says she received an email from a person that stated they had her password and would release sensitive information to her contacts on her computer if she did not pay $4,000.
12:49 p.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. Male stole phone and took money out of bank account. She doesn’t know who the male is. Courtesy report of theft of cell phone in Las Vegas.
SUSPICIOUS
March 13
12:33 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Deputy approached by a male who advised he is from Oklahoma and walking to D.C. He checked clear through LEADS. Deputy asked how he was dry with it raining and he advised he was under someone’s porch down the road. Male advised to stay off people’s property.
March 16
6:28 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Two males trying to scam people out of money. They just walked outside the building, have been begging for gas money and cigarettes. Possibly impaired by drugs or alcohol. Two males were located and stated they needed money to get to Cleveland. They were provided a ride to the bus stop.
March 17
10:15 a.m., View Drive, Newbury. Found my garage door broken. Doesn’t appear anything is missing. Caller isn’t pointing fingers but wanted us to know a male is back in the area and he is a heroin addict. “He doesn’t like me very much.”
THEFT
March 15
3:31 p.m., Meadowlark Lane, Newbury. Caller said her husband was served with a protection order and was to vacate the house. She said she is now missing her $3,200 Louis Vuitton purse and another $500 wedding bag, before he was ordered to vacate the residence. Both parties are still married and no divorce has been filed yet. Caller was advised it was a civil matter and to contact her attorney. Caller advised she understood and requested the incident documented. Advice given.
March 19
9:41 p.m., Franks Road, Auburn. Male on the phone with CVD that is stating he is armed and wants to shoot his neighbor. He climbed in the neighbor’s house through a back window and wants to hold a daughter. He is currently inside the resident’s home and they are home but do not know he is in there. He knows they have a 17-year-old daughter and wants to kidnap her and hold her hostage. Deputies made contact with female and she was advised of situation and deputies were en route, She was told to quickly and quietly exit the house because someone may be inside with a gun. Female/child met arriving deputies at the door. Male told CVD there were bombs around the perimeter, under the influence of drugs. Interior of house checked and no one was located inside. Barn on property was checked and no one found inside. Neighbors’ house was checked and it checked OKK. Deputy checked the number and found it was out-of-state and returned to a business. Family was a little bit shaken but assured deputies they were OK.
THREATENING
March 18
7:25 p.m., Clay Street, Huntsburg. Threatened the caller via Facebook messenger. He said he was going to come kill the caller. 17-year-old male received a random IM message from a Facebook friend that he never met, a 14-year-old likely from the Lancaster, Ohio area. Threat lacked credibility and parents were not concerned and did not want to press charges. Deputy attempted to contact 14-yer-old and once he found out GCSO was involved he blocked caller from his account. Advice given about sharing and broadcasting personal information over social media and to people that are unknown.
VANDALISM
March 17
7:18 a.m., Newcomb Road, Middlefield. Caller advised his sign has been vandalized. Sign by the road had a vulgar image and a message spray painted on it. Deputy assisted the owner taking the sign down. Document only. Amish school, building were tagged. All graffiti was removed by a township employee.
7:45 a.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. Need a report for vandalism to the park. Person(s) unknown threw a trash can into the lake. Just wanted it reported and extra patrol.
WEAPON OFFENSE
March 14
12:50 a.m., Munn Road, Auburn. Neighbor is across the street and one parcel south. Something hit my house. Caller does not plan on going outside to check for damage; does not want to get involved unless necessary. Caller confirmed a round entered through a window and struck a wall in his daughter’s bedroom. Caller believes the neighbor has stopped shooting. Deputies found neighbors were shooting outside and a round went through the caller’s bedroom window where their 9-year-old daughter was sleeping. A bullet and gun were collected. Report to follow.
