May 1-7, 2020

The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office May 1-7, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 209 calls during this period.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

May 1

3:56 p.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. Baby cow is loose. Has twine stuck around its neck. Caller is afraid cow will go onto the road and get hit. Calf was near the road, but never entered it. Owner was contacted and came out to tie the calf up.

May 7

6:39 p.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Caller thinks she has rattle snake in her vent. Vent covered up for the night and a neighbor is going to remove the snake tomorrow.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

May 2

9:24 p.m., Chestnut Drive, Burton. Caller says they share a private drive and her neighbor is blocking the drive. She said on multiple occasions she has had to ask neighbor to move her vehicle so she could leave. Caller said her neighbor is mocking her and yelling at her. Caller is using obscenities and calling her a coward. Both parties advised to get along.

May 3

7:29 p.m., Clay Street, Montville. Caller says the neighbor is yelling profanities at her dogs. Caller’s daughter yelled, “You shut the F up” to the neighbor and she yelled back, “Shut the F up b$@&%, I’m going to F kill you.” Now Caller saying things escalated when she went outside to retrieve dogs and neighbor told her to “kiss my ass.” Female is back inside and male is outside standing on property line locking toward caller’s house. Caller told not to look out her windows or acknowledge him, and to stay inside. Advice given.

May 5

8:31 a.m., Kile Road, Claridon. Caller advised his neighbor’s chickens keep coming onto his property and his dog is getting sick from the chicken feces. Neighbor was very apologetic and said she bought fencing and stakes, and was going to put it up in the next few days. Caller was advised and was satisfied with outcome.

DISORDERLY

May 1

11:22 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Approximately 10-12 people there underage drinking and riding four-wheelers. Caller has seen Snapchats from the party. Caller would like to remain anonymous. Address does not exist; no parties observed from the roadway nor any large number of vehicles at any of the addressed noted.

HEALTH

May 3

7:16 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Troy. Caller advised there are 70-80 Amish having a party and said, “I like the Amish but they shouldn’t be doing this and putting the rest of us at risk.” Forward to health department. Homeowner’s information obtained. 37 people playing volleyball after a family dinner.

7:47 p.m., Nash Road, Parkman. Parkman official reporting a large party at the listed address. There are at least 50 people present. Deputy responded. 25 family members having dinner after worship services, including 20 who reside on same property. Forward to health department.

SUSPICIOUS

May 1

9:24 p.m., Plank Road, Montville. Caller’s 23-year-old stepson came home and they believe he is on something. Has a history of drug use; he is not in his right mind. Caller believes he has several types of drugs on his person. Two summons issued for drugs.

May 3

2:17 p.m., Tavern Road, Parkman. Over 100 Amish kids playing softball at the park. Caller states this is not social distancing. Deputy video-recorded the game for documentation. This will be forwarded to county health department for review.

May 4

8:37 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Male black hoodie and shorts peeking around the church lot and dancing. Tall and skinny. Deputy arrived and located male in the front flower beds pulling leaves. He was listening to music while working. Checked OK.

May 6

5:07 p.m., Wye Road, Munson. This morning around 11 a.m. a van with two occupants in jumpsuits walked around his home. They told homeowner they were there to paint his gas meter. Homeowner called gas company and was told all service calls have been suspended due to COVID. Suspicious males did not have lanyards on. Advice given.

THEFT

May 4

5:40 p.m., Water Street, Chardon. Male took $500 worth of stuff and left Tractor Supply in a green Mustang. Two younger white males. License plate obtained. Pressure washer, tool set and a large battery.

THREATENING

May 2

11:22 a.m., Edgehill Drive, Newbury. My ex-girlfriend’s current boyfriend tried to run me over. He has a large red Dodge truck. I had to run and hurt my ankles; no need for rescue. He is gone.

May 7

8:42 a.m., Arborwood Way, Munson. Was sending answers to a test through a group chat and asked for money. Her friend then threatened to put a “bounty on her” and said she should kill herself. Caller is home now and her mother also is there. Caller and her mother wanted friend’s parents advised of the comment he made. Spoke with male and his mother. Male apologized. Advice given.

TRESPASSING

May 7

1:34 a.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. Caller says they caught three males trespassing and underage drinking. There were five total, but two left. There are three vehicles in the lot. All parties called for rides home, left property and warned not to return. Supervisor on scene did not want any criminal charges.

WATER RESCUE

May 2

4:16 p.m., Valley Road, Auburn. Boat capsized on LaDue. Male operator transported to UH Geauga. Wife contacted and will be en route to hospital.

WEAPON OFFENSE

May 2

3:32 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Two juveniles shooting clay pigeons in the backyard. They can hear the ammo flying through the woods near them. Spoke with juveniles. Both advised of complaint and that they needed a backstop due to the location they were shooting was unsafe.
