The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office May 15-21, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 287 calls during this period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
May 17
4:18 p.m., Owen Road, Parkman. Someone dumped a dead horse in a field on Owen Road. Animal is covered by a blue tarp.
May 21
1:32 a.m., Claridon Troy Road, Burton. Lives at tree farm. Caller has a snake in her kitchen. Two feet long, brown with yellowish spots. Was able to catch the snake with a shovel and broom, and got it outside.
BAD CHECK
May 15
12:02 p.m., South Street, Chardon. Caller needs to file report about a check he received. Male stated the business he works for is out of New York. The restaurant that wrote the bad check is in Eastlake. Eastlake PD refused to take the report and advised him to file a small claims complaint through the courts. Advice provided.
CITIZEN ASSIST
May 18
9:59 p.m., Ravenna Road, Auburn. Caller advised he “came out here for some things and got caught up with a female.” His LYFT driver charged his card but did not show up. Caller wants to get to Greyhound station in Cleveland in order to get home to Columbus. He is upset because phone is at 1 percent and he is now stranded. He said he met a girl and she was “methed out” so he left and is now stranded. Caller transported to post so he could call for a ride. Sister was en route from Columbus to get him.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
May 16
8:20 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Husband is beating caller up. No weapons on his person, but does own two guns. Both parties have been drinking. Caller is waiting outside for deputies. Verbal only between husband and wife over tax returns. Both parties intoxicated; separated for the evening. Female given ride to 529/90 to wait for a ride.
HARASSMENT
May 15
1:57 p.m., Aspen Hills Lane, Burton. Berkshire student has been harassed by two other students. Follow up will be conducted.
May 19
5:24 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Caller received a spam calling coming from Chardon PD and was harassing him. Female caller with an Asian accent said she was the “police” and demanded caller pay $900 through an app. Caller told her ‘no’ and said he would go to the police station. She hung up and caller received two additional calls. Caller advised he did the right thing and was told the police would never call for money owed to the courts.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
May 16
7:07 p.m., Rapids Road, Troy. Caller reports a neighbor on Fox shooting has struck the back of his house with a bullet. Disposition to follow.
SUSPICIOUS
May 17
4:53 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Huntsburg. Caller observed a male hiding in the woods watching the family while they were sunbathing. He crouched down and crawled away heading south. Female does not recognize the male from the area. He did not appear to be carrying anything. Subject was an Amish neighbor who was looking for deer antler sheds. No further action wanted.
5:14 p.m., Scranton Woods Trail, Newbury. Female with a rifle believes caller is trespassing and is pointing a gun at him. Caller is 17 years old. She was aiming a gun at him so he took off running deeper into the woods. He cannot head back to entrance of road because that is where she lives. Caller believes she was firing warning sbots and bullets hit the tree by him. Caller said too far to walk to Route 87 so he is going to wait in his current location until deputies arrive. Caller climbed up to a tree stand. Initially, caller was driving a tractor off of the powerlines when he got stuck. She then came back with the gun and started taking pictures. Caller advised property owner has a right to come back to his location and photograph. He was instructed to remove the lawn tractor as quickly as possible and not come back.
May 19
9:22 p.m., Moseley Road, Thompson. Male walked by a house and heard what sounded like a child calling for “help!” Deputies located the barn and discovered it contained numerous chickens and roosters that are roosted by the open front window. No signs of anyone at the location. It is suspected caller heard the roosters.
THREATENING
May 20
4:53 p.m., Huntley Road, Huntsburg. Girlfriend’s father has several firearms. He threatened to shoot the caller while they were involved in a verbal dispute. He told caller to get off his property or he would shoot him. Male did not show up and phone goes to voicemail.
