The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office May 22-28, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 419 calls during this period.

CITIZEN ASSIST

May 23

3:35 p.m., Brakeman Road, Hambden. Plastic jug stuck on dog’s head for about 10 minutes. Boxer mix. No holes in bottom, dog is not getting air. Dog is slowing down, appears to be having trouble breathing. Wildlife Rescue.

May 25

8:59 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Elderly female called her son in Toledo. She is very upset and has a squirrel in her kitchen. Son asked if a deputy could go assist her.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

May 26

7:51 a.m., Rapids Road, Troy. This is being called in by third party. Called her friend and said she is getting beat up. No weapons in the home. Unknown drugs or alcohol use. No children in the home.  She is crying. She does not need an ambulance. He pushed her down the stairs. Her face is bleeding. She does not know if he has been doing drugs. He may be armed. One arrested for DV.

FRAUD

May 22

4:54 p.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. Four years ago female was scammed out of money. Two weeks ago she thinks she was again scammed by someone posing as an attorney in Africa. Complainant advised an individual claimed to be an attorney from Africa and was seeking $100 and asking for personal information. Complainant advised to block the call and not send money or information to a stranger in Africa.

May 27

2:49 p.m., Thomas Drive, Middlefield. Ex-husband took caller’s stimulus check and he won’t give it to caller. She just got a letter saying it was deposited into his account. Spoke with caller and male. He advised he tried to help her out with the paperwork for the stimulus check, however, the check was never deposited by the government because it was his bank account with her name on the check. Parties were advised to contact the treasury department for assistance with filling out correct paperwork.

5:21 p.m., Leader Road, Hambden. Caller requesting to meet with a deputy in reference to an internet scam. Caller has given an unknown male $17,000. Male told caller he was working on an oil rig in Mexico and needed money to get home. Caller sent large amounts of money to different locations and male began threatening caller with being arrested if she did not send more money. Advice given on how to protect identity. Report to follow.

HARASSMENT

May 24

2 p.m., Campton Ridge Drive, Chardon. Caller owns an online boutique and is being harassed by some women about her policies. Civil matter.

May 27

11:52 a.m., Kenny Drive, Hambden. Ex-boyfriend is harassing caller. He has called 600 times over the past few days and is calling her family and friends. Caller has a no contact order on him. He has a GPS monitor so he won’t come hear caller’s home. Sent to municipal court.

OVERDOSE

May 23

8:36 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Male overdose. Female not allowing anyone near. Deputy advised. Male given two doses of Narcan and transported to the hospital. Possible heroin located in the vehicle he was driving. His girlfriend checked OK at campground. Report to follow.

PHONE HARASSMENT

May 27

7:07 p.m., Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Caller was receiving harassing calls from a probable scammer, promising her $3 million in exchange for $100. When caller refused, he stated sending inappropriate photos and messages to her phone. Caller asked incident be documented.

SUSPICIOUS

May 22

2:51 p.m., Ravenna Road, Munson. UV sanitation machine was stolen. Report taken.

May 24

4:30 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Male is taking wood from the beverage store and it is closed. The wood is bundled and for sale for $6. Deputy spoke to male, who said he took four bundles and left $25 with a note, and slid it under the door to the business. Called ODNR to advise of same and to have them relay to the ranger at Punderson.

9:08 p.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. White Cadillac Escalade, caller believes it was selling drugs to Amish. Sitting in parking lot; unknown if it is occupied. Male located sleeping in his vehicle in parking lot. Deputy advised male of complaint. He advised he is an Amish taxi driver and had a 10 p.m. pickup. He gave consent to search his vehicle. Loose marijuana was located and male had a large amount of cash on him. He was able to provide a medical marijuana card. He was sent on his way.

May 25

5:59 a.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Campground, male found a strange man sleeping in his tent and he will not leave. Deputies located male sleeping in a tent that didn’t belong to him. Male was driven to his campsite and his friend was located. Complainant ended up knowing his friend. Advice provided.

THEFT

May 22

8:51 p.m., Rapids Road, Troy. Complainant said between 12-6 p.m. today someone stole eight of her political signs valued at $95 valued out of her front yard. She did not have any suspects and just wanted the incident documented.

THREATENING

May 27

6:21 p.m., Nicki Lane, Hambden. Occurred on Monday. Caller’s brother-in-law threatened to “knock his block off.” Caller just wants it on record. Deputy advised.

TRAFFIC CRASH

May 22

10:21 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. White Chevy Tahoe struck his vehicle in parking lot and is now leaving. Caller thinks she is intoxicated. Damage to Tahoe on front passenger bumper. One female arrested for DUI and causing a crash. Report to follow.
