The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 5-11, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 368 calls during this period.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
June 10
7:53 a.m., Munn Road, Auburn. Two turtles in driveway and caller cannot move. Husband just left and barely could get out. Can a deputy come move the turtles?
CITIZEN ASSIST
June 9
5:42 p.m., Campton Ridge Drive, Chardon. Caller purchased clothing from a female that lives/has a business here, paid for the items but never received them. Caller is out more than $200. Caller advised there is a class action lawsuit against this female with over 800 people involved. She wants to talk to a deputy about sending copies of her invoices/receipts for possible criminal charges. Advice given to report to local law enforcement and seek advice to handle federally because of multiple state jurisdiction issues.
June 11
12:17 p.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. Would like to speak to a deputy regarding people taking flowers off her husband’s grave. Deputy advised. Advice given.
DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
June 6
3:29 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Caller and boyfriend were involved in a domestic; he smacked her in the face. He has since left on foot. Both parties intoxicated. Caller denying rescue. Caller says he has a history of felonies and possibly has a couple restraining orders. No drug use, just alcohol. Caller claims she agreed to have rough sex with him and hitting was permitted. According to caller, he slapped her in the face when she mentioned her ex-husband. Stated he did not hit her very hard, but hard enough to get her attention. Caller was not threatened and did not sustain any injuries. Boyfriend left apartment when asked to leave. Boyfriend found while walking on Mayfield and detained and questioned. Caller did not wish to press charges and deputy took boyfriend home.
FRAUD
June 6
7:54 p.m., Signal Hill, Auburn. Caller received a call from a male stating he was from Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office and caller had a warrant for his arrest for not showing up to court, and could pay $1,700 bail to clear the warrant. Caller advised he withdrew $1,700 from his bank account and bought Green Dot cards. Caller gave the man the card number over the phone. Said he also received a text from CCSO asking him how he was doing. Caller told this was a scam and no law enforcement agency would make anyone pay with gift cards.
June 7
12:32 p.m., Princeton Road, Huntsburg. Sent someone $680 for a dog she ordered online and never received. Deputy advised. Deputy sent email to breeder, waiting for reply.
June 8
9:23 a.m., Crackel Road, Auburn. Female was scammed sending gift cards. Female has been sending a male she met on the internet gift cards, unknown amount. Male is from California. Male wanted female to send him $20,000 but she did not have the money for a piece of machinery.
HARASSMENT
June 5
1:12 p.m., Mitchells Mill Road, Chardon. Is getting harassed over a Facebook post she made about protesting. Female receiving texts, posts and calls regarding a Facebook post. Advice given; extra patrol requested.
JUVENILE PROBLEM
June 9
7:43 p.m., Legend Creek Drive, Munson. “Grandson is not listening.” Grandparents will not take him to Mentor Headlands, so he is walking. Nothing physical occurred; just verbal with his grandparents. Grandson located at Heath and Mulberry. Grandparents did not want unruly charges, they just wanted him back home. Deputy transported him back home and he was told to stay home and get permission next time.
SUSPICIOUS
June 5
9:44 p.m., Shedd Road, Middlefield. Caller says there is a lot of traffic at a house on dead end Shedd. There is a lot of junk in the yard. Caller thinks there is a drug dealer living there. Area checked. Deputy unable to locate an address but there is a bunch of cars, white trailer and other junk in driveway. There was no short-term traffic seen coming from the location.
June 8
10:43 p.m., Old State Road, Middlefield. Caller thinks there is going to be a war from people from all over the place. There is a crowd of them singing a chorus on both sides. Advised that “nothing serious was going on” and that whoever was signing had stopped.
THEFT
June 7
7:47 p.m., Ravenna Road, Newbury. Someone took a lawn mower and rototiller from the barn. Happened two nights ago. Deputy advised. Report to follow.
June 8
9:26 a.m., Bridle Trail, Munson. Victim’s wooden smiley face sign was stolen from the roadside. Sign had lights that would come on at night.
