The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office June 12-18, 2020. In total, the sheriff’s office handled 310 calls during this period.
EXPLOSIVES
June 12
4:01 p.m., Mayfield Road. Claridon. There is a two liter “bottle bomb” with toilet cleaner and aluminum foil near the trailer. Caller is concerned because it has not gone off. It appears fluid leaked out already and caller does not want to touch it. Deputy photographed the bottle and sent the images to LCSO bomb tech, who advised deputy to vent the bottle to render it safe and to dispose of it. Deputy did as advised and bottle was disposed of in the dumpster.
FRAUD
June 16
12:03 p.m., Cross Creek Parkway, Newbury. $8,704 in fraud on the company credit card. Deputy advised; report taken.
June 17
9:04 a.m., Wayne Lane, Hambden. Ex-manager embezzled over $50,000 from the park. Ex-manager is still living in the park for now. Deputy advised. Report taken.
HARASSMENT
June 12
10:54 a.m., Campton Ridge Drive, Chardon. Being harassed by woman regarding her online clothing business. Caller sent messages through Facebook. No threats made. Civil matter.
INJURED PERSON
June 16
4:46 p.m., Farley Rod, Parkman. 5-year-old boy was walking a pony on his parents’ property. Pony was spooked and took off running while boy was holding on to the bridle. He was dragged around the yard, down the driveway and then west on Farley Road to state Route 528. Boy suffered head laceration and other injuries, and was air lifted to UH Rainbows and Babies Hospital. Per state trooper on scene, boy was conscious.
SUSPICIOUS
June 13
11:50 p.m., Chateau Trail, Auburn. Someone wearing a hoodie with their face covered was on the front porch. Caller has incident on camera. All door and windows locked. Deputies arrived. Appears to be ding-dong-dash. Younger male in shorts rang the bell and ran off. Checked area. UTL.
June 17
11:35 p.m., Georgia Road, Middlefield. Caller saw a naked man running down Georgia Road in Middlefield. Deputy checked Georgia from 168 to 608 back to 168 and back to 608. Gone on arrival.
THEFT
June 12
7:50 a.m., White Road, Burton. Caller would like to report a gun stolen from her home. Glock 43 was stolen from nightstand in her bedroom. She does not have any proof of who stole the gun, but there were only a few people in house over the last week and list of suspects will be in full report.
4:32 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Ex-husband stole chain saw and other miscellaneous items from residence. Caller wanted it documented that last year she let ex-husband stay in a van in the driveway for a couple of months. In December, chain saw went missing. Caller asked husband about it and he said he pawned it but would get it back to her. She just wants incident documented because probation officer had told her to report it. Advice given.
June 13
10:57 a.m., Auburn Road, Auburn. Caller says sometime during the night his 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle was stolen from his yard. No suspects at this time. Report taken.
June 15
7:29 p.m., Fisher Road, Burton. “Black Lives Matter” sign missing from front yard. Caller would like information logged.
June 16
10:20 a.m., Rapids Road, Troy. Caller stated her political sign was stolen sometime within the past 24 hours. She had multiple political signs stolen last month. Caller would like incident documented and extra patrol.
TPO VIOLATION
June 12
8:07 p.m., Berkshire Drive, Aquilla. Caller has a protection order against his ex-wife. She threatened to blow his head off and sent him photos of bullets. He has a court order out of Indiana to pick up the vehicle and she is not home. TPO granted this morning but has not been served yet. Advice given.
TRAFFIC HAZARD
June 15
5:27 p.m., U.S. 422, Troy. Cow just crossed 422 north to southeast of Mumford Road. Cow ran into the woods. Cow was just stopped on Main Market Road, walking southwest. OSHP responding to help. Trooper reported cow ran behind Aunties Antiques. Passing truck driver reporting white dairy cow seen on 422 westbound lanes just east of House of Nagy. Last seen behind Ma and Pa’s store. People in area trying to catch the cow and will call if they do. Two are missing, one small all white and the other is larger, white with red spots.
