The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 14-20, 2020.

AGENCY ASSIST

Aug. 15

9:55 p.m., Perth Road, Madison. Bomb squad call out for possible IED at meth lab. K-9 Argo was deployed to search the outside and doors to residence. Argo showed interest to the man door of the garage, where suspected device was located, but did not give his trained response. Bomb tech then entered the residence and searched the garage but no device was located.

BURGLARY   

Aug. 16

7:49 p.m., Hotchkiss Road, Newbury. Male on a bike broke into garage, took a camera and fled on an older motorcycle. He had on a red shirt and vest, and had a black backpack. Caller saw him on the camera on his phone and went out. He also had a chainsaw out but fled without it. OSHP and PCSO advised. Yellow helmet. Evidence collected. Report to follow.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Aug. 17

11:21 a.m., Swine Creek Road, Middlefield. Caller would like to talk to a deputy in person about his truck that he left a kid that lived there borrow. Sheriff knows all about it. Deputy advised. Spoke with caller who said he allowed a kid to borrow his pickup for the past four years or more. Caller said he just discovered the kid does not have a driver’s license. Caller does not want to file an unauthorized use report because he is worried kid could come after him. He requested the kid be located and arrested for an active warrant he has and the vehicle towed if found. Caller just doesn’t want kid driving his vehicle any more. Advice given.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Aug. 16

12:53 p.m., Greenbrier Drive, Munson. Neighbor keeps dumping trees and dead animals on caller’s property. Deputy advised. Left note for neighbor to call regarding dumping brush, dead animals on caller’s property.

Aug. 17

12 p.m., Woodiebrook Road, Munson. Caller sold an item on eBay. Person that bought the meat slicer took parts off the item and shipped it back to caller. Buyer filed a complaint with eBay advising item was damaged. Dispute is over reimbursement of funds to buyer and seller. Civil matter.

DISORDERLY

Aug. 14

2:21 a.m., Evergreen Drive, Thompson. Caller says he met a girl on Facebook. She came over and brought her items. Male who dropped her off is there now and threatening caller. They are inside the house now. Caller is locked in his vehicle and says they are stealing items from the trailer and loading them into an old black Suburban, which is leaving the park. Caller does not know if they have stolen his items or not, but believes she has, believes she is pregnant and does drugs. Caller now saying there are two males and two females. He said he believes she attempted to move into his residence because when he came home several of her boxes were in living room. He told female he did not approve her to move in. When he came home from work he observed three unknown people loading up a vehicle with boxes and left. Caller said he did not have female’s phone number and deleted her Facebook account, so he believes she had a made up name. No further action needed at this time.

FRAUD

Aug. 17

8:46 a.m., Edgewood Road, Munson. Caller advised her accounts were hacked. Deputy advised. Caller’s Facebook account was hacked and unauthorized charges were made from it. Caller has contacted her banks and also deleted Facebook. All funds lost have been reimbursed.

1:33 p.m., Venus Road, Hambden. “Microsoft” contacted complainant and advised her personal information was at risk. “Microsoft” requested complainant to buy $11,000 worth of Target gift cards and scan the access codes. Complainant provided the codes to “Microsoft.” Suspect contacted complainant through 206-333-6826. Advice given. Complainant has been in contact with her banks.

6:55 p.m., Kinsman Road, Newbury. Former employee keeps calling in fake order, resulting in large amounts of food being made and not getting picked up or paid for. Report taken and under investigation.

INFO REPORT

Aug. 19

12:18 p.m., Madison Road, Montville. Just had a subject try to scam me. Said she was from CEI. Tried to tell me I had to pay my electric bill in 30 minutes or else they would shut it off. They said to bring the cash to 12388 Mayfield Road. Complainant did not give any money. She called CEI and they said they to call GCSO.

SUSPICIOUS

Aug. 14

8:53 p.m., Taylor Wells Road, Claridon. Two males were attempting to locate a poker game advertised as “Underground Poker” on Facebook and were robbed at gun point from their vehicle on Hall Road near Taylor Wells. Victims identified two Black males that appeared from the field on the north side of Hall and from the woods on the south side. Approximately $5,000 was taken from the victims while in their vehicle. Black males fled on foot to an alleged getaway vehicle. Multiple units responded including GPD ranger and the GCSO detective bureau. Report to follow.

THEFT

Aug. 16

11:37 p.m., Water Street, Chardon. Black male, 5’8” to 5’9” older. One smaller white kid, approximately 14-15 years old, ran out of Sheetz with 24 pack of beer. Headed up toward DQ then toward laundry mat. Being followed by kids who hang out in parking lot. Per caller, they have the subjects on video.

Aug. 18

11:54 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Caller says there is a female leaving his house in a vehicle. Caller said he will beat the person that is picking her up. “I will beat him to death.” Caller has been drinking and so has the female. Smoked some marijuana. Caller says the vehicle is leaving north on Thompson Road. Caller says female came over and stole $100 from him. Lake County notified. Report taken.

VANDALISM

Aug. 19

6:13 a.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. Someone etched swastikas and racist comments into the park tables and benches at Chardon Township Park. Deputy aware, taking other call first. Report taken.
