The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Aug. 28 through Sept. 3, 2020.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Aug. 28
6:21 p.m., Morgan Road, Montville. Male has been living in a camper on caller’s property. Caller has not heard from him for days and just found out he was arrested in Cuyahoga County for sex crimes involving children. Caller wants his camper and belongings off his property now. Caller given advice about eviction process.
Aug. 29
11:37 a.m., Grove Road, Troy. Here with the arborist to get my parachuting equipment from the tree. Subject was given permission to retrieve property. No damage done and no further items on the property.
Aug. 31
9:59 a.m., Kile Road, Hambden. Would like to speak to a deputy regarding his noisy neighbors with ATV late in the night. Phone call only, would just like some advice. Advice given.
FRAUD
Aug. 29
11:06 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. My computer was hacked. $20,000 was given to them. Already contacted my bank and changed my accounts. Report taken.
Sept. 1
8:19 a.m., Pinegrove Trail, Munson. Caller is a victim of fraud. Caller wrote a check for $599.99 to have a computer virus taken off laptop. Caller will bring canceled check in. Check was sent to New Jersey.
Sept. 3
2:33 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Claridon. Complainant advised she was scammed using Bitcoin over the dark web/Nigeria. Complaint further advised she was able to cancel most of the transfer and will get the rest of her money back if she files a report. Incident report number given along with additional advice. Complainant also filing a complaint with FBI.
LACERATION
Aug. 28
9:10 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. Male is intoxicated and put his hand through glass by accident when he tripped and fell. They are controlling bleeding by applying pressure.
POISONING
Aug. 30
8:26 p.m., South State Avenue, Middlefield. 40-year-old male drank a cup of bleach in an attempt to prove he cares. Male was arguing with his girlfriend. Male left out the front door. No violence, no weapons. Don’t think he is intoxicated. Male has long hair and a beard. Deputy advised.
SUSPICIOUS
Aug. 30
11 a.m., Orchard Road, Munson. Caught a male taking a Trump sign on the corner. He did put the sign back.
Aug. 31
9:26 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Caller found some text messages on her 10-year-old daughter’s phone. She is concerned because of the messages that have been exchanged. Daughter met someone on Roblox and they started texting over the phone. Nothing criminal in the text thus far. Mom will block the person from texting her daughter. Advice given and advised to contact GCSO if subject becomes more aggressive or text content escalates.
Sept. 3
7:59 p.m., Oak Tree Trail, Newbury. Male is very upset a vehicle is delivering phone books and tossing them in people’s yards. Advised male it is not a crime, but he is upset because he feels they are littering since he did not subscribe to a phone book. Deputy advised and checked the area. All phone books appear to be in white plastic bags and placed next to the mailboxes.
THEFT
Aug. 28
3:16 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. Caller wanted it noted she had political signs stolen again. Again, she was advised to bring them in a night and put them back out in the morning. Extra patrol was provided today several times since responding officer took original call on July 18. Delay in response due to a domestic in Hambden and a threatening in Claridon.
Aug. 31
3:06 p.m., Hotchkiss Road, Burton. Has female on video stealing political signs. Female was identified by her sister that it was her in the photo stealing the sign. Mother was notified. Will do some follow up.
THREATENING
Aug. 30
9:54 a.m., Grove Road, Troy. Neighbor is threatening to shoot the sky divers if they land in her yard, claiming they are terrorists. Unknown is she has any weapons.
VANDALISM
Aug. 30
10:27 p.m., Newcomb Road, Middlefield. Female very upset over her Biden/Harris signs being vandalized. Neighbor asked her to take them down and she did not. Now the sign is spray painted. Deputy did observe two of the signs had Trump spray painted on them in green paint. Deputy also observed a Black Lives Matter sign had a green swastika sprayed on it. Female said the total of the damaged signs is $60. Deputy spoke with neighbor and admitted they asked female to love the signs farther down so they did not have to look out their window and see them, but denied vandalizing signs. Deputy advised if they see anyone damaging signs to contact GCSO.
