The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Sept. 11-17, 2020.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Sept. 11

1:09 p.m., Moseley Road, Thompson. Caller is elderly. His scooter battery died. Male is far back in the woods with dead battery and unable to walk. Scooter is stuck in mud. Fire department has Montville coming with its ATV to retrieve male and scooter.

FRAUD

Sept. 11

9:42 a.m., Glenmora Drive, Chardon. About 6-7 weeks ago  caller purchased an electric fireplace on Buy, Sell, Trade from a guy in Wickliffe. Caller sent $200 via messenger and immediately started getting a fraud alert. Guy said he was going to give caller his money back but he’s had every excuse. Left message for complainant to contact deputy.

Sept. 12

1:36 p.m., Trailwood Road, Huntsburg. Caller received a call from the Amazon Fraud and Billing Department that told caller he had a fraud charge of an iPhone on his account. Caller called back and said they convinced him to let them tap into his computer and account, and now they have all his information. Caller contacted the bank and changed all his passwords and cancelled his accounts and credit cards. They convinced him to get different apps and cards on his account as well, but the bank would not allow them to go through. Caller has spoken with his attorney as well. They said they were going to call back today and get more information; they have called several times today. IR requested per bank, which is handling the incident. No monetary loss.

Sept. 15

3:47 p.m., Valley Road, Auburn. Female in the lobby to report she was scammed into giving money to a person who said she was owed $350 from a virus company.

JUVENILE PROBLEM

Sept. 13

7:28 p.m., Newcomb Road, Middlefield. Deputies responded to location for large Amish party. Deputies found 250 Amish having a party about a mile off the road and advised them they were trespassing and had to leave. As they left, a large amount of trash was left behind. Deputies learned the juvenile across the street through the party. Deputies waited around until the Amish were picked up by their taxis. Juvenile’s father was spoken to and he advised his son is 18. They tried calling him and checking their house, but could not locate him. Deputy explained juvenile had until Wednesday to clean the mess up or he will be charged.

SUSPICIOUS

Sept. 13

9:53 a.m., Tavern Road, Parkman. Male in caller’s driveway asking for money and gas. Older white male wearing a tan shirt. Was there yesterday as well.

Sept. 14

9:27 a.m., Stafford Road, Auburn. Receiving suspicious mail and is not sure if her identity has been compromised. Complainant received multiple mailings from California concerning worker’s compensation funds. Complainant does not have any claims filed and will contact the attorney general in California and advise them of the mailings. Information given complainant on how to file an alert on her credit.

THEFT

Sept. 11

2:56 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Female stole multiple items, chargers and other items from Parkman BP. Running on foot northbound on 528. White female, pink tank top, carrying pink hoodie and purse, black pants. Employees were able to recover all of the merchandise before female took off running down the street. Caller does not wish to pursue charges at this time. Suspect not located.

Sept. 12

2:25 p.m., White Road, Burton. Trailer was broken into, go-carts were taken, racing style.

VANDALISM

Sept. 11

9:29 a.m., Aquilla Road, Claridon. Someone last night ran over my Biden sign and it may have caused damage to their vehicle also as a stake is missing. Biden sign destroyed. No evidence left on location.

Sept. 12

10:09 a.m., Rockhaven Road, Munson. Caller advised someone keeps setting her political signs on fire. Deputy met with caller. She advised last week someone lit her sign on fire and last night someone ripped her new sign. No suspects or evidence. Caller wanted it documented.

Sept. 17

9:11 a.m., Stillwell Road, Claridon. Claridon Recreational Park was vandalized last night.

WARRANT SERVICE

Sept. 14

9:31 a.m., Westfield Drive, Newbury. Caller advised her son has a warrant and has barricaded himself in her garage. He is high on meth. He does not know deputies have been called. No firearms are in the garage. Mother called back and said son left. According to mother, son flipped out when she was trying to get him to take a shower so she could take him to the jail.
