The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Dec. 18-25, 2020.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
Dec. 19
1:56 p.m., Butternut Road, Munson. Amazon driver in the garage, dogs won’t let her out. Owner came out and was arguing with her. Unknown where the dogs are now. Owner apologized to driver; no injuries, no damage.
Dec. 24
9:56 a.m., Taylor Wells, Claridon. 5-6 black/white cows loose in the road.
BURGLARY
Dec. 23
5:08 p.m., Thompson Road, Thompson. Girlfriend broke into the house and stole $3,500 to $4,000 of cash. She removed the trim and forced entry into apartment while caller was away. Report taken.
CITIZEN ASSIST
Dec. 22
11:49 a.m., Meadowhurst Lane, Munson. Requested IR. Deputy dropped off three letters from Santa to the children of the home.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
Dec. 19
5:45 p.m., Chardon Road, Chardon. Female was head butting male in parking lot. She also was punching him. Both parties went behind the building. There is a car with its flashers on, the door is open and no one is in it. Female had a hat on with weird leggings. Male was attempting to flag down a passerby. Caller left area; male and female were standing on the side of the building.
FRAUD
Dec. 18
9 a.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Someone gained access to our checking account and wrote a check for $32,000. Bank said to contact GCSO to report it. Caller’s daughter will be there for the report and has access to all the information. Report taken.
Dec. 21
9:38 a.m., Far Hill Road, Hambden. Complainant received a fraudulent call from “Amazon” requesting credit card information for a return. At the time of making the report complainant insure if any funds were taken from caller. Advice given.
Dec. 22
2:38 p.m., Wake Robin Road, Newbury. Unemployment fraud. Caller said he was notified by his place of employment that there was a claim for unemployment using his information. Caller was advised to notify the state and to file a police report. Deputy also advised caller to file a complaint on the FTC website and to notify his bank and credit bureau. Caller is not out any money at this time, just needed incident documented.
PROPERTY DAMAGE
Dec. 18
9:33 a.m., Rosewood Drive, Chardon. Plow company did damage to his driveway. Need a report. Plow driver did tell caller he was coming to the home, unknown when. Resident upset because plow driver did not do the job as directed. Left gravel on drive. Civil matter.
SUSPICIOUS
Dec. 18
4:04 p.m., Elm Drive, Newbury. Subject was walking around the Cricket Ridge Pet Hospital. Male stated he was going to ask them a question about cats he has at his home. Male was advised to call the pet hospital for that information instead of hanging out in the parking lot.
Dec. 20
3:33 p.m., Hobart Road, Parkman. Neighbor shot caller’s cat with a paint gun. Large hole in the cat; it’s still alive. Deputy responded to location and met with complainants, who feel neighbor shot a BB at their outdoor cat. Now the cat is digging at open wound. Complainants have no evidence, but suspect any of their neighbors. Complainants are treating the cat and wanted the incident documented at GCSO. Advice given.
Dec. 22
5:05 p.m., Woodin Road, Chardon. Daughter has received three suspicious packages in the mail. They would like to make a report. Caller is receiving packages with his daughter’s name and address that they did not purchase. They are not at a loss of money, no accounts have been hacked, nor credit cards or accounts being charged. Requested incident be documented.
THEFT
Dec. 23
10:55 a.m., Clay Street, Montville. Someone broke in and took a jewelry box. Trashed things. Report taken.
Dec. 24
6:26 p.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Caller is in the jail and reporting he believes his home and business were broken into while in jail and well over $10,000 worth of property was taken. Caller was unable to provide any specifics and would not write a statement. He also advised deputy about some pornography that was “spoofed” into his home through the ductwork. Caller advised if he wanted the matter looked into he would need to contact GCSO at a later date.
