The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 15-21, 2021.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Jan. 15

2:50 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Female states her daughter has been gone for 8-9 years, since 2012. Located in North Carolina and message left.

Jan. 18

5:03 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. People stuck on the ski lift for approximately 40 minutes. Complaining of getting cold. Munson FD on scene and advised motor on lift now working. Munson FD restarted lift with an auxiliary motor.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Jan. 16

9:35 a.m., Grove Road, Troy. Neighbor is harassing us over property lines. He is using foul language. Caller has a company over surveying property. Neighbor was advised to contact his own company if he does not agree with the surveyor’s calculations. Caller and her husband were advised to avoid contact with neighbor.

Jan. 17

9:33 a.m., Castlewood Drive, Newbury. Neighbors car is blocking some of caller’s drive. Neighbor seems to want to fight about it. History of putting nails in the driveway. Deputy met with caller who was upset about debris on or about the roadside; it is a zoning violation and not criminal. Advice given to contact township zoning.

Jan. 21

1:58 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. IR requested. Complainant said she entered into an agreement and other party failed to hold to his end of the agreement. Agreement was over a Meadowbrook Drive property in Newbury. Complainant explained she was renting the property and wanted to buy it. She was offered $5,000 to end her land contract and she agreed. Owner sold the house to someone else but they only paid $2,300. Complainant advised it was a civil matter and advice given.

FOUND PROPERTY

Jan. 15

8:25 p.m., Kevin Lane, Hambden. Caller found a silver men’s ring in her flower bed and turned it over. Ring has some sort of design on it. Ring was collected and photographed, and placed into evidence for safe keeping.

FRAUD

Jan. 16

4:29 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Huntsburg. Caller provided her personal information over the phone, including her SSN. She received a debit card that she did not request or apply for and called the number on the letter and gave all of her information. Deputy advised complainant to contact U.S. Bank, which put her in contact with card issuer, who was able to deactivate card. Female now contacting Ohio JFS to inform them of false unemployment application. Female advised she did not lose any money or assets due to this.

Jan. 18

4:16 p.m., Claridon Troy Road, Troy. Caller’s driver forged one of caller’s checks for $3,000. Report taken.

Jan. 21

6:07 p.m., Mulberry Road, Munson. Caller in lobby to make report for fraud. Complainant bought a pair of shoes on eBay and did not receive them. He called a customer service number he Googled. The unknown person he spoke to told him they need to verify his account. Complainant ended up sending this person $5,489.59 through apps and Target gift cards. Report to follow.

10:15 p.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Caller was in the internet and had someone take over her computer. He was trying to access her credit cards. He claimed to be from Amazon, working in the fraud department. Caller does not remember what information she gave him. Female advised to contact Amazon to check into legitimacy of concern. Advised to monitor credit card and bank account. Female advised she has not lost money.

PHONE HARASSMENT

Jan. 15

3:18 p.m., Munn Road, Newbury. Caller states her friend is harassing, calling and texting. Male is threatening to post photos of caller on Facebook. Caller said she has a family friend who is constantly calling and texting her. She was given advice about a CPO or a certified letter to pursue harassment charges.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Jan. 15

9:35 a.m., Butternut Road, Burton. Damage to mailbox. Caller states he had a certain sign on it and is not sure if it was a hate crime. Spoke to caller. Appears that a vehicle may have struck mailbox with mirror.

SUSPICIOUS

Jan. 15

6:43 p.m., Washington Street, Auburn. Caller says there is a male filling up pop bottle full of gas. Caller is concerned due to what is going on at the U.S. Capitol. Deputy advised. Area checked, UTL on vehicle. Clerk at gas station did not see anything. Plate returns to an Aurora address. Dispatch was advised to have an Aurora PD check address. Per Aurora, one of male’s employees ran out of gas and pop bottle was only thing he had to put gas in.

THEFT

Jan. 17

12:23 a.m., Sawmill Drive, Hambden. Caller states several football players stole their mailbox. No description of the vehicle or direction of travel. They were at the home and caller kicked them out. Teenagers at the home know some of those involved. Report taken.

Jan. 19

9:42 a.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Theft of mail from caller’s P.O. Box in Newbury. Complainant came to GCSO to report theft of a $128.35 rookie card from this P.O. Box. Complainant advised to contact the USPS Inspector General for follow-up. Complainant said he already contacted the post office but need a report number from GCSO. Per complainant’s request his purchase paperwork will be uploaded to report.
