The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Jan. 22-28, 2021.

ASSAULT

Jan. 26

1:55 p.m., Brightwood Drive, Newbury. Male walked up and head-butted caller. Does not need rescue. Male had a gun on his hip. Report taken.

BURGLARY

Jan. 27

1:52 a.m., Hotchkiss Road, Newbury. Caller believes someone is breaking into his garage. Caller can see the truck on the cameras. A fem ale was observed on video cameras entering a garage and a house that is vacant due to a fire. Deputies arrived on scene and found the female loading property from the garage into the back of pickup truck. Female did not have permission to enter the house or garage. Female was arrested and taken to jail.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Jan. 25

9:33 a.m., Old State Road, Parkman. Caller states a plow truck keeps damaging mailboxes and is not looking out for horse and buggies. Spoke with caller and advised to contact road department. No mailbox damage observed.

EXTRA PATROL

Jan. 25

5:44 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Caller states a man in a red 2-door car pulled into her drive and vomited in her yard. She yelled out to him asking him to clean it up. He swore at her and told her he would be back and she could burn in hell. Caller is asking for extra patrol overnight. No plate info for car.

FRAUD

Jan. 22

11:03 a.m., Curry Lane, Auburn. Male in lobby to report fraud. Phone scam from IRS. Scammer said there was a problem with caller’s Social Security Number and wanted him to send gift card number to clear up problem. Caller did give bank name and last 4 of his SSN. Advised caller to let his financial institutions know to watch his bank accounts.

3:36 p.m., Robinson Road, Chardon. Requesting phone call for fraud report. Male received a debit card in mail to his address with his name.

Jan. 25

2:21 p.m., Holden Ridge Road, Munson. Someone used my name and DOB to collect unemployment. Caller said he received a pre-loaded debit card from Ohio unemployment. Advice given along with websites for credit monitoring as well as FTC website.

6:06 p.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Caller received a check for $2,950.52 from Santander Bank along with a letter asking caller to purchase $2,500 in Nike gift cards and telling her she could keep $450. Caller advised she knew it was a scam and wanted it documented. Caller turned over the check and letter, and asked it be destroyed. Check and letter disposed of in shredder.

Jan. 28

9:38 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Newbury. Someone took out a small business loan in caller’s name for $37,700. Caller is working out of state right now and will not be home until mid-February. Report taken.

SUSPICIOUS

Jan. 27

5:20 p.m., Chipmunk Lane, Burton. Caller’s teenage daughter got picked up by a taxi driver who lives on 608. He was acting strange during the car ride. She was sitting in the front passenger seat and he kept leaning over and trying to read her texts and acting weird, and made some inappropriate comments. Nothing criminal took place. Advice given not to use taxi driver any more.

THEFT

Jan. 25

10:32 a.m., Old Rider Road, Burton. Someone got into their cars and took money. Caller said unknown person(s) entered their unlocked vehicles and took loose change and dollar bills totaling approximately $20. Extra patrol requested.

THREATENING

Jan. 22

11:06 p.m., Wilson Mills Road, Munson. Male has been calling and texting caller, saying if she does not come over to his house he will come over to her house and “pull her guts out through her mouth.” Male lives in Ashtabula. He doesn’t drive so he would need to get a ride. Male has been violent with caller in the past. Deputy read texts and listened to calls, no direct threat was made. Deputy spoke with male over the phone and explained caller was not his personal property and she did not want to be contacted. He said he has no intentions of hurting caller and only wanted her to take responsibility for a pending weapons charge in Ashtabula County resulting from a traffic stop. Deputy informed male the issue was between him and Ashtabula court. Deputy advised caller to seek a no contact order and a protection order against male.

TRAFFIC CRASH

Jan. 22

11:09 a.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Car into ditch. Male arrested for OVI. Driver was involved in a private property crash in law firm parking lot. Deputy observed male drive into the ditch.

WEAPON OFFENSE

Jan. 26

2:15 p.m., Crestwood Drive, Middlefield. 17-year-old male was cleaning his BB gun and it went off and hit his 11-year-old sister in the head. Complaining of head pain and mother does not know if the BB actually went into her head. Ambulance transported girl to hospital. Report taken.
