The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 12-18, 2021.

ASSAULT

Feb. 14

10:32 p.m., Meadowlands Drive, Chardon. Caller stated witnessed an assault. Male grabbed a girl by the head and smashed her head into the wall. Male pulled a gun and told caller to get out. Caller called PD from parking lot. Subject found in system. Male previous domestic in 2012. Checkup. Ok. They are OK. We are OK. More checkups. We are OK. No further checkup. Report to follow.

CITIZEN ASSIST

Feb. 15

4:12 p.m., Rock Creek Road, Thompson. Male has questions about where/how to place flags and markers on his property to keep snowmobilers out. Advice provided.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Feb. 12

4:03 p.m., Erwin Drive, Burton. Caller advised neighbors installed a camera that is recording her household. Deputy advised. Caller told that homeowner is within their rights. Camera on property owner’s fencepost facing pubic roadway.

Feb. 18

9:56 a.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. Caller advised she loaned a friend a phone and now he’s refusing to give it back. Civil matter.

FRAUD

Feb. 14

2:14 p.m., Farley Road, Parkman. Was scammed out of some money and needs to make a report.

Feb. 15

8:34 a.m., Brakeman Road, Hambden. Caller’s wife was scammed by multiple unknown persons stating her computer has been compromised and she would have to pay for virus protection. Wife told she needed to purchase $4,000 of Target gift cards and provide the information to the “virus protection” company. Wife purchased the gift cards and provided the information. All the cards are now at $0 balance and were used somewhere in Delaware. Wife also gave her debit and credit card information, but no purchases have been made. Wife advised to call her bank companies to place alters on her accounts. Advice provided to further protect her information from internet scams.

SUSPICIOUS

Feb. 12

1:33 p.m., Mayfield Road, Claridon. Someone is flying a drone outside windows of massage therapists office. It is at eye level outside the windows. Caller advised the drone is owned by the realtor doing pictures for office. All is resolved. Canceled.

Feb. 13

10:16 a.m., Thrasher Road, Troy. 7-8 men in trucks with rifles, possibly getting ready to hunt, but caller says there is no open land to hunt. Deputy advised. Vehicles GOA. Advised to call back if they return.

Feb. 18

4:22 p.m., Burton Windsor Road, Middlefield. We just received a tip that a person is going to come here to sell stolen property. Caller asked that a deputy hurry to the location. Caller has to leave for a meeting but wants to make sure the information is reported. Info obtained, follow-up needed.

THEFT

Feb. 18

9:19 a.m., Madison Road, Middlefield. Converters cut out of vehicles. Deputy advised.

THREATENING

Feb. 16

8:26 a.m., Ravenwood Drive, Claridon. Subject is sending vulgar messages to the caseworkers at Ravenwood. Report taken.

WEAPONS OFFENSE

Feb. 13

9:59 p.m., Daniel Lane, Hambden. Caller states someone in the park is shooting, 6-8 shots. Shots were all at once, with one last big boom. Another call came from Woodin Road advising of same. Deputy told gunshots originated from the front of the trailer park near the road. Sergeant observed the area and did not hear any shots. While parked a green laser light turned on from Daniel Lane and pointed directly in sergeant’s windshield. Deputies met with male who appeared intoxicated and admitted to using the laser light to “mess with the cats.” Nothing further was discovered and the deputies cleared a short time later.
