The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office Feb. 19-25, 2021.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

Feb. 19

12:35 p.m., Bell Street, Newbury. Horse caught between fences. Caller needs assistance.       

CITIZEN DISPUTE

Feb. 24

8:17 a.m., Quail Woods Drive, Chardon. Just saw a neighbor drop a dead mouse in our driveway. Ongoing issue. Deputy spoke with neighbor and told her complainant saw her drop the dead mouse. Complainant advised she wants incident documented in case female continues to do strange things in front of her home.

Feb. 25

6:30 p.m., Daniel Lane, Hambden. Male threatened him with a toilet lid. No physical contact. Male caller uncooperative. Caller is refusing to separate himself from other male, who accused caller of stealing his golf clubs and then picked up the toilet lid and came toward caller. Male subject has left. Deputies located male subject and was told not to return to Daniel Lane address. He also had an outstanding warrant through Chardon and subsequently was arrested and transported to county jail.

DRUGS

Feb. 19

11:41 a.m. Ravenna Road, Newbury. Subjects that live in the apartment attached to the store are smoking marijuana. They can smell it in the store and customers are threatening to call the police on the store owner for it. Complainant advised renters smoke marijuana and the smell leaks into the store. Advised she will pass it on to the renters once they return home.

EXTRA PATROL

Feb. 23

6:11 p.m., Burrows Road, Montville. Male subject is sending threatening messages after being fired in Mentor. Caller is concerned after receiving a message from him saying he would make him pay with a picture of a gun. Caller is asking for extra patrol.

FRAUD

Feb. 22

4:30 p.m., Mayfield Road, Munson. Elderly female was scammed by someone claiming to be with Publisher’s Clearinghouse. She bought $103 worth of gift cards and provided them with the numbers.

5:45 p.m., Hautala Road, Montville. Male in lobby to make fraud report. Someone using his SSN. Complainant said while he was renewing his CCW he was notified that his SSN was being used by a sex offender in New Mexico. Advice given to contact Ohio BMV, credit check agency, federal agencies for social security and contact will be made with the originating agency in attempt to fix the error.

PROPERTY DAMAGE

Feb. 19

7:05 a.m., GAR Highway, Hambden. Tire fell off a Chardon Schools plow truck and struck a passing vehicle. Report needed. Both are in the parking lot of the school. No injuries.

Feb. 21

8:32 a.m., Claridon Troy Road, Claridon. Someone threw cheese all over their yard last night. Deputy located the juveniles responsible. They will be cleaning their mess.

SUSPICIOUS

Feb. 19

1:56 p.m., North Market Place, Bainbridge. Male reaching through cages for tools. Nothing taken as of yet and denies any help from anyone. Has a took hiding between some items in the cart. Per our jail, cannot hold male due to his drug withdrawal issues. Cuyahoga County Sheriff’s Office advised same. Male arrested at Home Depot for theft of $734.97. Advised of his warrant. Released without incident.

9:46 p.m., Stone Road, Newbury. Caller advised someone used his phone to make a drug deal. Subject is picking the drugs up, “$30 worth of smoke” being delivered to this house on the corner. He said the drug deal is occurring within 30 minutes. Deputy checked area and saw no vehicles matching description caller provided. Saw no other suspicious activity.

THEFT

Feb. 19

9:07 p.m., Cloverdale Drive, Middlefield. Caller is advising her nephew stole her medication. Report taken.

Feb. 23

4:39 p.m., Main Market Road, Troy. Female in lobby to report someone went to her residence today and stole five tires and a battery from her yard. She has video footage of it. Deputy advised. See report.

6:42 p.m., Crimson King Trail, Hambden. Theft of gift card by worker. Company owner is with caller now. Deputy advised. Cleaning service company employee stole a $50 gift card. They have it on camera. Statements obtained and video collected. Report to follow.

VANDALISM

Feb. 20

12:38 p.m., Auburn Road, Chardon. Caller would like to report that her mailbox was egged on the outside and inside. Believes it happened sometime overnight. Could possibly have been done by daughter’s ex-friend. Caller would like a deputy to stop by. Deputy met with caller, who did not see anyone commit the egging, but believes it was ex-friend based on a past incident in July 2020 when he told people he had thrown a condom in their yard. Caller wanted incident documented and did not request deputy make contact with daughter’s ex-friend. Multiple eggs were thrown in the mailbox. Yolks are frozen and eggshells scattered throughout.
