The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office May 7-13, 2021.
ANIMAL ABUSE
May 12
2:19 p.m., Burton Windsor Road, Middlefield. Caller just stopped two kids from beating their border collie that is tied to a chain. They have a branch and are beating the dog. Caller will be waiting for the deputy. Deputy on scene. Two boys claim the dog had a chicken and they were hitting it to save the chicken. Caller said she did not see a chicken at any time. Deputy spoke with humane society and someone is en route to assess and evaluate that he will complete follow up. Caller also advised of outcome.
ANIMAL PROBLEM
May 7
8:30 p.m., Main Market Road, Parkman. Cows in the roadway, cars are flying down road. Cows are in driveway, bull is aggressive. Neighbors are walking through the woods to round the cows up. Owner of cows spoken to about animals at large. Several Amish boys showed up to wrangle the cows.
CITIZEN ASSIST
May 8
6:54 p.m., Merritt Road, Munson. Inmate would like to speak to a deputy about pressing charges against a prosecutor. Inmate said he felt like the charges against him were not correct and he was innocent. Deputy told inmate that was what court is for.
May 12
1:06 p.m., Swine Creek Road, Middlefield. Wants to file a complaint on why male was sold a gun. Caller does not feel safe. Female said male made no threats with the firearm. She felt unsafe with the way he was handling it in the past. Caller provided with ATF hotline number and advised her to contact them to file complaint.
CITIZEN DISPUTE
May 8
12:21 p.m., Princeton Road, Huntsburg. Neighbor is hitting golf balls into caller’s yard.
DOMESTIC DISPUTE
May 8
11:56 a.m., Pekin Road, Newbury. 26-year-old male broke stove glass, screaming in caller’s face. There are knives in home. No one is injured at this time. Son is screaming and banging on door. Caller thinks male may be on drugs. Thinks he might be purchasing at gas station at 87 and 44. Has left there many times to buy cigarettes but does not come with any. Fight started because father said male was not allowed to go to the gas station. Male has been known to use heroin and possibly meth.
FRAUD
May 8
9:04 a.m., Valley Road, Auburn. Male purchased ammo on internet and it has not been delivered. Seller will not refund the cash. Complainant said he paid through ZELL and his bank advised him to contact ZELL to attempt a refund. IR provided.
2:50 p.m., Mentor Road, Chardon. Received a call from a foreign-sounding male from Best Buy. Caller gave him access to his computer and saw him moving the mouse on screen. This has happened before. Unknown if they were able to access caller’s accounts. Caller advised to get computer checked at Best Buy and change all stored passwords.
May 10
12:36 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Claridon. Spoke with female who advised she was scammed by an unknown person claiming to be from the DEA. Female gave out name, birthday and Social Security Number. Female is not out any funds and will contact her bank. Advice given.
May 12
7:01 p.m., Orchard Road, Munson. Ordered a dog off the internet. Scammed out of $1,000. Report taken.
PHONE HARASSMENT
May 8
2:07 p.m., Klatka Drive, Munson. Caller says he is being harassed by an ex-girlfriend. He said he said something inappropriate to her and now she is continuing to message and harass him “as revenge.” Her boyfriend also is messaging caller and threatening him. Deputy made contact with female who abruptly hung up after deputy identified himself. Called her back and left a voicemail to leave complainant alone. In addition, deputy sent message to female’s boyfriend instructing him to leave complainant alone. Complainant advised and said he would call back if calls/texts don’t stop.
SUSPICIOUS
May 9
2:04 a.m., Chanticleer Court, Auburn. Caller says her motion detector went off. There were three boys outside, with masks on, who ran up to the door, started laughing and took off. Last time the boys were there they threw slices of cheese at the house. Caller believes the two incidents are related and requests extra patrol.
THEFT
May 12
7:05 a.m., Swine Creek Road, Middlefield. Caller believes someone stole his 45mm gun. Male believes his significant other’s ex-boyfriend stole gun out of unlocked vehicle. Female located gun inside the home. Caller warned of dangers of misplacing and mishandling his firearm.
12:56 p.m., Zenith Drive, Newbury. Neighbor keeps coming into my yard and stealing my rocks, chunks of granite. Cost is approximately a couple of thousand dollars. This has been going on since around January. Caller does not have any cameras set up but has neighbor on tape stealing his firewood. Deputy advised.
THREATENING
May 10
8:43 p.m., Messenger Road, Auburn. Caller reports his son is high on meth and just threatened to burn the family house down. Son is not home at this time. Threat was made over the phone to his father. Son upset his father is refusing to give him money. Caller called back and advised he is going to GCSO to make a report.
WELFARE CHECK
May 8
6:45 p.m., Chardon Windsor Road, Claridon. Caller was speaking to a female on WhatsApp. She wanted money. Caller did not give her money and then she threatened to kill herself. Caller has sent approximately $600 in the past. She allegedly lives with her mother and is 29 years old. Deputy checked the alleged home and it is vacant. Caller told he likely is being scammed.
