The following is a sampling of the calls handled by the Geauga County Sheriff’s Office July 23-29, 2021.

ANIMAL PROBLEM

July 23

2:08 a.m., Crackel Road, Auburn. At least five cows in the roadway, wandering from one side to the other. OSHP unavailable. Area checked. No cows observed in roadway.

CITIZEN ASSIST

July 28

12:43 p.m., Aldenshire Drive, Claridon. Resident found a long gun buried in the woods of their new home. Gun was in very bad shape, but appeared to be a .22.

9:22 p.m., Merritt Rod, Munson. Bail bondsman brought a wanted person to the office even though he was told the jail was full. Jail sergeant would like a deputy to meet with him and reiterate the jail cannot accept prisoner. Accompanied jail sergeant who advised bail bondsman jail is full. Bondsman videotaped conversation and asked for badge numbers.

CITIZEN DISPUTE

July 23

11:41 p.m., Zenith Drive, Newbury. Caller would like to speak to a deputy about a neighbor shining lights into their yard. Caller said neighbor behind him has yard lights shining directly onto his property and into his windows. He said this started a couple of months ago with one light, but now there are several more. Deputy responded to Castlewood Drive home. Lights were on the ground and on the vehicle parked in the driveway, shining directly at caller’s property. Lights also are blinding traffic on Castlewood Drive. Deputy attempted to make contact with property owner, but he refused to answer the door. Deputy advised he would have a day-shift car to the home tomorrow and speak with him about the lights.

July 25

1:57 a.ml, Mayfield Road, Huntsburg. Neighbor came over and is harassing the caller’s teenage son. Neighbor is there to “punch my son in the face.” Neighbor is intoxicated. Argument between two neighbors. No violence. Both parties advised to stay on their property and not go to the other neighbor’s house again.

DRUGS

July 27

5:44 p.m., Swine Creek Road, Middlefield. Blue Chevy Cruise in parking lot. Male beating up a female in the parking lot of Valley Picnic Shelter. When caller left to call she no longer could see the people, but car still there. Interstate Towing en route. Two taken into custody and transported to jail on charges of drug possession. Evidence taken to GPD evidence lockers and logged. Some of drug evidence will need to be tested to confirm contents.

FRAUD

July 23

5:43 p.m., Bass Lake Road, Munson. Male was scammed out of $1,000 from someone claiming they were from the Social Security office. Caller stated he was told there was a warrant out of his arrest for a drug case in Texas. Caller was asked to get money and buy Target gift cards for payment to avoid any legal issues. Caller paid for two Target gift cards worth $500 each and provided card information to the person, who then asked caller to go and buy more gift cards. Caller then contacted his wife and GCSO, and was told it was a scam. Target will attempt to track the purchases made on the gift cards.

INTOXICATED PERSON

July 25

3:38 a.m., GAR Highway, Montville. Male hanging halfway out his door, snoring, passed out, on driver’s side. SUV. See report.

SUSPICIOUS

July 25

9:22 a.m., Burton Windsor Road, Middlefield. West of 608 small scarecrow in or near road. Looks like it could be a child as you drive by. Removed from road.

July 26

7:32 a.m., Shedd Road, Middlefield. Male walking down the road in a Halloween mask. No shirt and sweat pants. He lives at the top of the hill. Caller advised he was acting strange. Area checked. GOA/UTL.

11:14 p.m., Butternut Road, Newbury. Caller states he hears something in his attic. Does not know if it is a person. Caller believes it is an animal. Deputies arrived and met caller, who led deputies to attic and nobody was observed in the home. Caller will try a live trap to catch whatever animal is in the attic.

July 27

12:39 p.m., Center Street, Chardon. Male with no shoes, shorts, white socks walking on Mentor Road. Male forgot his shoes and was headed to see a friend at gas station.
